Smoke In The Garden

Post by dewintondave » Sun Dec 27, 2015 6:50 am

While some people's gardens were clothed in snow, ours was bathed in smoke. Lovely, aromatic, castor oil smoke...

Had a great run today. The loco ran for an hour, with topping-up the tank every 10 minutes. It was run in reverse throughout - for running-in. The cooling fans ran for 70 minutes before the batteries started giving up. I let the loco run out of fuel, and kept the fans on until the air was coming out cooler. Yesterday I wrote up an "operating procedure" for the loco, as I found I had been missing some steps on previous runs...:

Lubricate final drive spur gears
Fill gearbox with 10 mL of oil
Pour fuel into rocker cover
Lubricate all running gear
*Check voltage of glow starter battery
Charge batteries after the run

I love the sound your loco makes when it's running Dave.

That engine is a masterpiece. Do you not find it odd to have green grass and flowers at Christmastime?

Never mind: I just noticed you were in New Zealand. Perfectly normal then

Looks very content pulling wagons around the garden. Marvelous - a very enjoyable project to follow.

Superb! Runs at a sedate pace too. What a great project.
