Return to Llechfan, 23rd October

Post by dougrail » Sun Nov 06, 2016 11:23 pm

Hi,

This was the second part of a tour in North Wales with my Caradoc and the GWR rake [very appropriate, given the Cambrian Coast connections...]

Sunday morning and lighting up was beginning...

Wee shunting diesel...

Mid 1930s...when narrow gauge was running down, but a brave last effort was made...?

Glyn Valley Tramway too...

Katie out again :)

More to come...!

The Red Ragleth took over the GWR rake for a small while...

A colourful Yard in the afternoon...!

Berties....just can't escape them, can you?
Image

The bright blue Bertie, "Victor" belonged to a friend's missus, who had rarely steamed it since buying it. However, she had brought it along and so it was rostered to run with the GWR rake...

Deaucaville and tips sedately chuffing along...

Billy with the B's&2's..
Image

Then this rare old 'Dacre' came out to play. It was reluctant to steam at first, but for some reason whenever I walked upto it, and wafted my hand, it would begin to start making a gallant effort...! Some motion was loosened and oiled, and a second shot was made, running the loco round. I was permitted to water and fire the loco up and run it round myself;; we got three laps off it running light with me!

Steve discovered that the burner wasn't working as well and that it wasn't turned up as much as needed -- but was producing a somewhat sooty yellow orange flame. Once he had established this, we got it going again and mananged to get six laps nonstop out of it :o

Lime Kilns at Compton Down...?

Industrial Deaucaville...

Cadno being prepared onshed for 'the big one'...

Eight bogie coaches. A challenge for what has been previously a very mercurial, hit-or-miss engine...
Image

...or was it, given Cadno's gradual overhaul?
Image

Taking the troublesome blues and twos to task...
Image

The Accucraft did indeed romp around unaided with eight weighty bogie coaches in tow. :) The modifications to the exhaust, the crank replacements and renewals, and the new 'firebox' all came together to produce what has probably been the finest run of this gallant loco's current career sofar.

Hello Cadno my old friend, your busy day is, at an end....

And with that, what had been a very enjoyable day came to a close as we had packed up under candle, torch and lanternlight before heading out for takeaway [curry and rice!] for supper. :)

Stunning set of pics. I especially like the 8 balcony coach train snaking through the scenery, and the night photography. Beautiful modelling, top notch camera work.

A beautiful setting and great shots there. I have been looking for inspirational buildings for my own village scene and believe there are some of Peter's there which have just hit the spot!
The best things in life are free.... so why am I doing this?
