I did a goggle search for 'oddball locos' and came up with this site :
https://ogrforum.ogaugerr.com/topic/you ... all-trains
There are some really whacky ones on there... a diesel Shay anyone? - but this contraption really takes the biscuit!

The photo file is labelled as Patiala State Monorail System and intrigued me so much that I went googling again and found a video of it moving!

Patiala is between Lahore and Delhi, BTW

I found this site a long while ago and it is still there.

There is always someone who thinks he can build a better mousetrap, but most of the examples on the site above fall into the 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' category.

Australians have a term 'bush engineering', which often involves the use of fencing wire and baling twine. Probably the best railway examples being Kiwi timber tram locos.

Another brilliant build, Peter. No idea how I missed this thread, I'm just playing catch-up.

Of course, the next step is to motorise it and lay an extension from Brockhampton to New Delhi.....

They do have some wacky ideas on locos over in India. Don't you just love them.
