Re: eBay madness
This one amused me, I've been watching it and it has been a shade under 2K for months then it suddenly went up £500!?
A week later I got a message from ebay saying 'the item your'e watching has been reduced by £500! had a look and it was back down to just under 2K again. Nice try sunshine but nobody bought it.
It's quite a nice item really I'd like it for just using it as an ornament but the trouble is I can't see the value in it.

Re: eBay madness
I've been watching this too and although I wouldn't pay that much and can't understand why it is valued so high it makes me feel better about having one almost identical.
The best things in life are free.... so why am I doing this?
Re: eBay madness
Good Luck to them both.
Mind you, a friend of mine who has a camera shop that specialises in top end second hand gear sticks stuff that he doesn't want to sell, but can't really justify keeping for his own collection. He puts it in the the window with a ridiculous price tag on. The hope is that it doesn't sell, but if it does he is laughing all the way to the bank.

Re: eBay madness
Both these items seem to be priced for similar items of better quality/spec. The diesel is priced for the later metal chassis version, and the double fairlie seems to think it is a steam powered model. Caveat emptor

Re: eBay madness
The more I look at that Fairlie I am not too sure that the price is too wide of the mark. Way out of what I would pay, but when you compare it to the price of some RTR LGB locos. Plus add the rarity value.
The Accucraft L&B loco in electric form is priced at over 1500 quid.

Don’t think I would pay that kind of money either...

Re: eBay madness
Yes what you're missing is the highly dubious aspect of 'shipping from UK' but location is USA! How they get away with that is beyond me I've always found ebay quite draconian and never miss a trick, perhaps they only pick on UK sellers and keep them in line. The number of times I've been caught out where I don't want to buy from abroad and then find out the seller is in china only after paying.ge_rik wrote: ↑Thu Dec 07, 2017 9:23 pm Am I missing something here?

Yeah it is thought provoking.
We have local shop that uses ebay and says "from united states", and stated in us$, but located here in Canada !
And the product is 'magically' located here if you win.
If we successfully bid on an item we have the option to pay thru the ebay system, and then pick up at their bricks'nmortar store front to eliminate any shpg charges. Which is good for potential regional bidders and for the seller 'cause we have a little more bidding room/value. And does help regards the negativity of exchange rate (ex. 1.29cdn for usd today)

Re: eBay madness
Oh, yesssssss, gimme gimme gimme.
Thwack, bang, crump. (Sound of being lightly beaten around the bonce with the stick of common sense and the cricket bat of rational thought)
(Ahem) Perhaps not.
I fully understand that these are un common and I don't want to detract from the fact that there are people out there who might want one. I wouldn't say no to one gracing the shelves of my study as a curio. However I think this might be over the top for a value.
I can see the difficulties in setting a value for something like this and I would be very interested in what some of the forum members, whom I know have one, say about a price for it.
Although at the end of the day I suspect that a fair price for something like this is a price that the buyer and seller are both happy with.

Re: eBay madness
A nice little wagon, for a rather high price.
However, by playing the devil's advocate, If this is handmade or scratchbuilt how much is it worth?
If we look at the time it takes to make something, how much is an individuals labour worth? My local mobile mechanic charges £20 per hour, a skilled worker with few overheads. If someone is producing something as a business then what should we be paying?
The IP brake van I just completed took me at least 30hrs, If I was to sell it i would be lucky to get £75 quid. If I was working commercially that is not enough to support anything.
