I have used diesel sound cards and know my preference on these, however I have never used a steam sound card.
Can anyone recommend a good sounding steam sound card, I know I have heard one or two in videos on here so I know at least one or two people have this knowledge I am looking to fit this into a double fairlie.
Sounds brilliant Philip. How many sounds does it have, ie, whistle, guard whistle, etc?

I also use the MyLocoSound cards in most of my locos.
The most recent card includes brake pump, injector, guards whistle, bell, "All aboard" announcement, fireman shovelling coal when stationary, safety valve and a variety of steam whistles. It also cuts off the chuffs when coasting to a halt.

Like their predecessors, the steam, diesel and electric soundcards are highly adjustable to suit a wide variety of US, European and other locomotives. However, a number of major improvements have been made based on feedback from customers over the past ten years. Our latest version, recognisable by its black circuit board, is now available.
MyLocoSound Premium retains the installation simplicity of screw terminals and also a low price. However the quality and variety of sounds has been improved.Two bells, a guard’s whistle, safety valve blow off, live steam injector, coal shovelling, rod clank, brake squeal, drain cocks, three Westinghouse brake pumps and "All aboard" plus twenty one styles of whistle are included. For British locos there are Churchward, Bullied, Stanier and Gresley whistles. For US locos there are Hancock, American, Nathan, C & O and Reading chime whistles. For Australasia we offer whistles from Puffing Billy, NSW, Victoria, South Australia and New Zealand. And let's not forget Thomas the Tank Engine. On eighteen of them the pitch and volume is adjustable using our TV remote control. The remaining three are recordings which are volume adjustable only.
A load sensitive chuff is provided which chuffs hard when accelerating, softens when coasting and changes to an overrun sound when slowing down. This chuff can be triggered by the locomotive, if a chuff trigger is fitted, or can be synchronised to the motor voltage so that the chuff timing is correct for the number of cylinders and the speed. Two, three and four cylinder locos can be accurately reproduced including geared locomotives.
My only criticism of the MLS cards is the large pcb mount screw terminals that they fit at both ends of the board. This doubles the height of the unit and can make fitting in tight spaces more problematical. It's fairly easy to cut them off and just solder to the board terminals, but it's a nuisance to have to do and voids the warranty of course.

I faced a similar situation on my last build.
The motor controllers I use (Pololu Simple Motor Controllers) are sold in 2 forms;
one "fully assembled"
and the other "without connectors installed ", they come with the controller.
I find a non assembled one a very good option when I am doing installs in tight spaces.
