Does anyone know where I can buy a single printed copy?

My daughter wants a copy and I can't find it in WH Smiths or Sainsbury's and when I look online I can only find subscriptions for a minimum of three months.
I already subscribe to the digital edition and I got a free (hard) copy this month, but I'd like to keep the printed copy for my archive.

I've just looked in Smiths too, without any success - on leave this week and thought I'd treat myself... Oh well... Maybe I'll get the online version, but it's not quite the same...

You can get single copies here https://www.uniquemagazines.co.uk/Garde ... on-p347675, but it seems they have run out of this month's. Can you ask Phil directly Rik?
Also browsing for other sources, the website for the magazine seems to have disappeared from Warner's site. Very odd.

Thanks Phil
I eventually found a supplier (https://www.newsstand.co.uk/) that would sell me a single copy (for a price!) and had some left in stock.

Well I received my magazine this morning and again it's very thin. I have been told it's because of the situation we are in, at these COVID-19 times. I get other magazines, well Anne does with her BBC Gardeners World and that is still fairly thick and full of information for gardeners. I digress.....

This months doe's have contributions form some very competent people who seem to have articles on a regular basis and they do show some very well made builds. Like the "Stately home" for a lawn mower, yes it is for a lawn mower and it does fit in with the garden of the contributor or anyones for that matter. There is also a brilliant article on building an observation coach, which I think could be made by experienced modellers and possibly inexperienced also, but you do need to have done a couple of rolling stock builds and not I feel for those who haven't scratch built, but it could be also be a modify on an existing coach. There is an article interesting article on a moron an Accucraft Talgarth, but it does entail some metal work. An fairly simple build article on a Modeltown Signal Box for a first build is well painted, but for most of us who have build resin buildings it is somewhat of a let down when you consider what needs to be done before attempting to build resin....IE: wash the parts in soapy water, for which all of us who have built them know, but again if people haven't done any resin builds it does tell you I feel pretty much how do do it in a well done piece. There is a very good article on how to use very basic modelling skills to turn a Thomas chassis into a brilliant Class 03 Diesel or any chassis for that matter...An article based on a German Monorail for which the original builder has sadly passed away this September, tells us what was involved in the build. One thing though and hopefully we can get to see the modelling skills of the two people who did the build, there is another person who helped and eventually took over the build, in full. It is 5 metres long or just over 16 foot with a back scene that was done over 5 separate lengths. How about modelling a 16mm crossing keepers cottage from your bits box, well that's what apparently the author of the article did. It is quite well put together.

Lastly at the beginning of the magazine there is an excellent article on a layout called Vale of the White Horse Railway. some members may know of it......

The magazine has the usual traders, too many I feel, but I suppose they need to get some revenue in besides the people like myself who subscribe....

To pick up a couple of points that Rod makes perfectly reasonably - there are a LOT more people buying BBC Gardners World magazine - about 200 times our circulation - and a lot more advertisers with far bigger marketing budgets to help pay for it all. That means they can keep a fatter issue going. Mind you, costs will be higher. I bet there is more then 1 part-time member of staff!

There is, apparently, a ratio of editorial to advertising that is pretty standard over the whole magazine world. This was explained to me when I was angling to get some pages back a few months ago. GR is bang on that which probably explains why we are still publishing. I've no desire to go the way of Garden Railways. On the positive side, advertisers are slowly returning and a few new one appearing. Like it or not, advertisers are a big part of the mix that makes a magazine commercially viable, especially a specialist one. That and subscribers (thanks to those) who generate a sensible income. News stand sales bring in pennies for each issue hence the push in that direction.

At the moment. Covid has cost us 8 pages per issue. A bit of clever design means we freed up some editorial space so it's not quite as bad as it could have been. No-one involved wanted to thin the mag, but doing so means we are still in a healthy enough position to keep publishing for now. I hope so, I have loads of great articles I'm keen to get out there!

I'd very much like to know more about this monorail, but then I'd also like to ride on the real thing. Right now is the not the time for either (the prototype is broken, something to do with tyres) but if I can bring more to the page, I certainly will do.

Anyway, thanks to for the chance to explain. Don't forget, you can always get me on phil.parker@warnersgroup.co.uk

I really do enjoy the articles in the magazine and I get generally a lot from it with ideas and help, also the way it is presented or is it the layout, is one that is expertly done. I will carry on reviewing the magazine has I see it and hopefully more subscribers will join us in enjoying the magazine.

Thanks Rod - I appreciate the feedback. One thing I do miss is being able to go to a show and chat to people!
