Checking over the garden railway...

Post by dewintondave » Sun Dec 30, 2018 3:41 am

getting ready for a run of the big red diesel. I've spent a lot of time recently in the garden. The large cutting became too narrow for the diesel to run through it. I pulled out some of the edging to widen the cutting. Some roots had slowly pushed the sides in, they've been cut out and the width increased a bit. Today I've been pushing the loco around the line checking on the loading gauge. Lots of trimming, including the Pohutukawa "tunnel" cut into its aerial roots. A paver has slipped down the slope slightly and is now the only obstruction on the line for complete circuits. It's been lovely summer weather, and thankfully we've stayed at home :D
Best wishes,
Dave

Yes, summer in New Zealand, though I hear it's been a bit damp so far. The Pohutukawa and its red flowers are a very iconic symbol of NZ but probably not too familiar to folks overseas.

Had to look up a photo of the Pohutukawa flower. Similar to the flower of our Mimosa trees that grow in my yard.
