Excellent service from Garend Railway Specialists (GRS)
Excellent service from Garend Railway Specialists (GRS)
Had some tricky points on my layout for some time, they were never quite right. Slightly wrong track, wrong shape. They were very much in the "it'll do for a bit" bracket, that bit was two years or so. This summer I decided to get some built that would fit just right, after toying for about 2 mins about hand building them myself I remembered a conversation with GRS at the 16mm show and decided to give them a call for a custom build.
I was so glad I did!! These points were built to order by David at GRS. What a joy to work with, from initial discussion on the phone, excellent design process (plenty of back and forth to get things just right incl. mailing me a paper mock up), speedy build and then delivery. Brilliant! Thanks as well to Matt at the shop.
This weekend fitted my custom made points, so pleased with the craftmanship!!

They look splendid. It is nice to hear praise for a company for a job well done.
There can be far too much slating when things are not how we expect and not enough praise when it is due.
That is quite a severe curve btw.

If at first you don't succeed, use a bigger hammer!

The massive kink in your BEFORE photo is amazing, how did any locos get through that without derailing!

They didn’t very often and if they did it was with very very careful driving!tom_tom_go wrote: ↑Mon Sep 24, 2018 12:55 pm The massive kink in your BEFORE photo is amazing, how did any locos get through that without derailing!

It’s a fairly compact layout and built to fit the garden that was already there, my locos are all 0-4-0 and so cope ok with the tight curves. I was determined to have a bridge in this bit and the only way was to ‘make it fit’!!

But they still fell and I suspect they still will with your track overhanging the wall still.planty wrote: ↑Mon Sep 24, 2018 8:32 pmThey didn’t very often and if they did it was with very very careful driving!tom_tom_go wrote: ↑Mon Sep 24, 2018 12:55 pm The massive kink in your BEFORE photo is amazing, how did any locos get through that without derailing!
Could you build a small platform around the wall and add some buildings or something, you won’t have any problems then with any locos falling and getting damaged.
Great to hear about GRS’s service…Brilliant.
