Livery is to be based around a huge tin of exterior stain
Good one Ted, that's got to be the best reason I've heard for choosing a livery. Good luck with the build, you seem to be enjoying it, and it looks great so far.

OK I've checked the Iwata parts list for the Neo and it has similar parts.    So using the pic. of my Olympos you will see the small lever behind the operating button, this controls the amount of material(paint in this case) allowed into the air stream. If the lever is held to the back of the button...

Bit hard without pics. of the workings, but I have the original Professional Olympos which some say the Iwata is a copy of.   If you unscrew the rear cover there will be a tiny knurled chuck with the rear end of the needle stem protruding from it. If the chuck is undone or slipping that is what cont...

Yes Rik, the loco stopped and I thought it was something on the line, so started it off again and of course dropped a cell below recovery. Tried the two known recovery methods but it was no go. I have two 11.2 volt batteries that only give 7.4 volts now. As regards the transmission, this time I purc...

The LNR has been closed for the last month or so, firstly while I got another interest (RC Truck) out of my system, but then because I always use the petrol mechanical loco every other morning to keep the line open, and in a moment of inattention I killed 1 cell of the lipo battery. Never realized h...

Interesting loco. When you blow the pic. up, it appears to have most of the working valve gear between the front of the cylinder and the buffer beam, with an outside coupling rod like Blanche and Linda. If it was built in full size, there's no reason it can't be imitated in 16mm scale. Working out t...

Great work Jim, you must have quite a train of 7/8th's scale now. Have you got a funnel for that steamer yet?

Ah! what a difference a hemisphere makes, point taken Peter. I would of thought even when cold outside a door would be open as although a smith needs dim light for colour temp. etc. the fire takes a lot of oxygen from the air. It will still be a great looking building.

"A spreading chestnut tree" in the offing perhaps?
Like the roof, very typical for many buildings down here. Were the "Smithy's" doors open you could really go to town with detail.

As a boat builder shipwright by trade and in modeling, if I had a dollar for every rivet I've set I'd be a very wealthy man. I use many steel rivets as well as copper ones ( just finished setting steel rivets before lunch!) and not found the need for anything harder than mild steel. It also allows m...

You sort of beat me to it Steph, I have at least half a dozen home made snaps generally made of 3/8th MILD steel rod, and formed by drilling a 1/16th. or there abouts hole not very deep, and then driving the appropriate sized ball bearing into the end. WEARING SAFETY GLASSES. I find mild steel to be...

Andy wrote, but do you think I can find them? Of course you will find them after you have bought a replacement, if my experience is anything to go by. Don't know if it's any help but I made this simple representation of a chainblock from steel scrap, a wheel and two sizes of chain. I can take a clos...

Probably not the sites you were looking at Andy, but the model boat suppliers certainly have working/non working blocks and cordage if that helps.

Small details to the loco, I'm envious of your mug with a design on the side. It's the little things that make a railway.
