Hornby Magazine - Building the Festiniog

I just chanced across this video, which has shots of the Festiniog, plus modelling tips and a shot of a disel hauled garden railway. I haven't watched all of it but there may be bits of interest to some folks.

Good idea if there isn't enough room underneath between the solebars.
Coming on well.

Re: Driver and Fireman with shovel

Trevor Just out of curiosity I've printed your driver figure on both filament and resin machines, with interesting results. Firstly though I must say that these aren't properly cleaned up, I just roughly took the supports off and quickly sprayed with primer and haven't done any filling or anything. ...

Re: Servo Controlled Points

Looking good, well done. It's very satisfying when you get it to do what you want, isn't it? Rik has written comprehensively about his installation on Peckforton, and Greg and Tom have written about theirs. I detailed my own points and signals operations on these two threads. https://gardenrails.org...

Re: Forum Back!

Just to add a little detail to Steve's very welcome announcement. Some of you may be aware that we have been unable to make any posts for most of today. Our forum Host made a modification to our settings at about 10-30pm yesterday, following which, all posting was somehow disabled. After much proddi...

Re: Point rodding and concrete track

Firstly, welcome to the forum. Would you like to tell us a bit about your railway plans? Hi all Can anyone recommend any suppliers of point rodding and signal wire parts suitable for Peco G45 track? I'd like to have working point rodding and signal wires and although I'm aware I'll need to scratch b...

Re: Driver and Fireman with shovel

Are all figures produced this way so large? Will look further into it. I have sometimes seen references to "high poly" and "low poly" 3d figures. "Poly" being short for "polygons" I believe, and obviously that refers to the number of triangles or, in effect, ...

Re: First scratch-build - signal box

Hi Seb That is a very impressive first build, well done. For buildings and other structures, as Peter said, there is nothing that I know of that will keep wood of any species from absorbing moisture sooner or later. That in turn will lead to swelling/contraction, and for ply, delamination. Again, Pe...

These pictures seem to appear just fine on my end, but if they don't show up on your end, please let me know and I'll have another try. The pics all look fine to me Aaron. The General store looks great. I'm amazed that your line looks so much as though it has been maturing for years. Nobody would e...

The files are too big to upload (at least the system says they are) so you will have to follow this dropbox link to find them: https://www.dropbox.com/s/krr0ip6ysr4v7p7/driver%20and%20fireman.zip?dl=0 Trevor I've just downloaded them from your Dropbox link. I'm not sure exactly, but I think the rea...

I tend to make rivets at about 1 x 1 as well. Any smaller and neither Sketchup nor my printer like them!

Looking forwards to the more to follow. Yes indeed. :) This is not a criticism in any way, but I notice the the diagonal print marks across the panels. This is something I always seem to get and so far have not found a way to stop it. I've always assumed it is to do with speed and distanc...

Re: Festiniog Railway Welsh Pony - 3 D printed

The name plates were flat when I took them off the build plate - but warped under UV. I was planning to just glue them into place and expect the glue to hold them flat. I think I'd try to print them on supports with a plate on the build plate, and then trim the supports after curing. Doing it like ...

Cattle wagon for the E&D

A few weeks ago Peter Butler posted about a lasercut cattle wagon kit he had started to build ( https://gardenrails.org/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=6537&start=2490), he then decided it was too small to fit in with his other stock and offered it for sale. A quick check of the dims showed that althou...

Coming on well Trevor. That lining looks pretty good. Andrew and I found that painting the oval plates works best by painting ( or printing) the whole thing in the colour of the raised lettering/border, then once REALLY dry, flooding it with the recessed colour and quickly wiping the top to remove a...
