There were only 10 made. They were used up until 1975

Check out: www.railcars.co.nz I know they are rebuilding a Fiat

NZR Df (1954) locomotive

My next project is New Zealand's first mainline diesel-electric locomotive, the NZR English Electric Df of 1954 https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/9/99/DF1501.jpg I'm currently having a go at making a prototype nose hung axle motor arrangement. There's lots of wheels on this 2Co-Co2 loco...

Re: What are the best options for fuel for G Scale gauge 1 locomotives

I'm a fan of methylated spirits / alcohol firing. But, butane gas firing is so convenient. The only downside is that a loco mounted gas tank needs to be tested to very high pressures 300PSI - 20bar. However, gas tanks mounted remotely from the loco can suffer from a lock of pressure. Butane gas seem...

Re: Need some direction on a first project

Jim, I started with Dave Watkins' "Idris". I certainly recommend it. I widened the design from 32mm gauge to 45mm gauge without scaling everything else up. The Idris design is available on this page: https://www.16mm.org.uk/resources/drawings/locomotives/ Here's the loco on the rolling roa...

Re: Wick Material

Hi John, I've used the glass fibre wick since 2005 and it's held up well. You can re-pack the burner and raise/lower the wick height to get the flame right. I always extinguish the burners rather than let them burn down when meths runs out. "Just The Ticket" model supplies company sells a ...

Neighbours of garden railways

Had a lovely run of the Quarry Hunslet yesterday, the longest run so far, well over an hour of near continual running (no photos or videos). The young family next door came outside early on and the twin boys were right in to it. We are blest with a fence that is not too high. All family members show...

Shhh, don't tell the inspector that I've posted this! Oh snap! I had a good one too yesterday New loco running happily, then the coupling pin lifted and the loco started pulling on the gas line. The loco dragged the gas cylinder off the flatbed and was skidding along the track until it dug-in, and ...
