Re: G&DR Rolling Stock

I really like that, a far more practical effort that mine.

Re: G&DR Rolling Stock

As a result I am considering to invest in a 3d printing machine as the overall effect is alright but I'm hoping it just blends into the wagon rather than stands out as I'm still not 100% convinced. The amount of wagons I've got to build or improve on is making me weight up the costs and effort of b...

Re: G&DR Rolling Stock

Each colour conveys the wagon's specific duty. All different, but I love the way they harmonise, they'll look great in a train - well chosen! I'll try to take a photo of my simplified brake gear later in case it's of interest - nothing like as detailed as Cambrian, but it gives the impression that ...

Re: G&DR Rolling Stock

Thank you everyone. Ah the brake gear, well, pfft where do I start. A lot of effort and anything but the gentlest of handling will cause all your hard work to fall apart. I'm hoping it's going to be worth it in the end. As a result I am considering to invest in a 3d printing machine as the overall e...

Re: The G&DLR continues.

Not much to report at the moment save a massive amount of de-weeding had to take place and that I've managed to get the fence painted black in the short gap of decent weather.

Re: G&DR Rolling Stock

I've been plodding along with the vans and pleased to say on the whole - the major components are done. I have been tackling some brake gear bought from Cambrian Models. The original plan was to shorten to shorted them to bring the wheelbase in a little but I think they should go round my curve with...

Re: The G&DLR begins.

Thank you everyone. Hopefully once it's done I'll share pictures of them at night. The centre partition was actually my own creation from foamex. The original was plywood so it was fairly easy - I'm going to cut it down so I can add a false roof. The only thing I would say about Modeltown is there i...

Re: The G&DLR begins.

Generally, you could have a 16mm scale wagon or building built, painted and ready to roll in about two hours. Then you go "what if I add this? what if I add that?" and six month's later you've just got super detailed bits still hanging about. Thanks though, tbh it's not much different from...

Re: The G&DLR continues

Work on the station continues. So far the original wood panelling has been removed and replace in the waiting room/ticket office. Rather than paint then as I did before, I'm going to slap on some of the varnish I've been using. I have two colours original oak and dark teak - I THINK (TBH I don't act...

The G&DLR continues

After a few runs on the line with different stock and some tweaking (with more to come no doubt) the extension/rebuild has been a success - bar the obligatory derailments every so often. I did not lie when I said the line has to be driven. Anyway. -since they last saw service the station building ha...

Re: Peter Farley

That is great news - It's a blessing to us larger scale modellers that Peter had a good support base for his business. More importantly, a testament to the regard both we had on him and he & his range had on us.

Re: The G&DLR begins.

I think so too - I ummed and arred but I think the effort and outcome wouldn't really justify the expense. I'm looking at the old 50's signs with the triangles on top. I have some ply wood just need the wooden battens.

Re: NEW FWLR LINE

I'm of the same opinion. I think one would be useful for myself in the near future - Mainly for bits for my stock, I'm enjoying adding embellishments and parts to really bring them to life but recently I've been batch making some vans and the the sheer amount of money, time and effort going into the...

Re: The G&DLR begins.

Thank you. It was quite a job using just hand tools but I got there in the end. I think the layout is effectively done for the moment but there's still a fair bit more to do - adding the station buildings, signals buffer stops plus other little bits which should be done in the next couple of months ...

Re: Semi-scale BR: bridge upgrade

I've been busy adding rivets to my new rolling stock - it's for want of a better word tantamount to the lower levels of purgatory. The weird irony is the real bridge I based mine on was was actually welded so god only know what inclined me to add them. Absolutely beautiful model my friend. It proper...

Re: Semi-scale BR: The Modernisation Plan

Nice - unfortunately my other options for locos would be steam an O2 or Terrier. You could try a class 20. I remember someone building a 'G-or Something' scale one years ago on RMWeb. They were using Playmobile R/C stock and it looked the part. I'll see if I can dig anything up on it. Edit - I've fo...

Re: The G&DLR begins.

Hello everyone - apologies. I've been very busy as of late. Thank still for the kind words regarding my mum. Time is helping little by little and there's nothing more to do than keep on moving but it is still keenly felt. The railway has had a bit of a growth spurt since I was last around - the wago...

Re: NEW FWLR LINE

Lovely work and I hope the personal issues are on the mend too.

That coal stage is an impressive wee beastie. I do hope to eventually get an 3D printer soon, mainly for being able to make little bits which are taking a little more than 10 hours to make.
