Re: ELECTRONICS FOR GARDEN RAILWAY

I agree absolutely with all that you have said. Electronic equipment is a useful tool which can be used for particular purposes within our railway world, but has its limitations. I would not use electronics for its own sake, but one beauty of our hobby is that we can each do exactly what we like wit...

Re: Future of preserved railways

I have previously been involved with full size steam road engines as well as one full size preserved steam line both of which have been using polish coal for many years, which produces more clinker than welsh dry steam coal and is generally not as good but is available. Conversion away from fossil f...

Re: Animals on the line

Thanks for the replies folks. As for getting another dog, that is under consideration, but not purely for that purpose. My wife and I are considering our own ages, how old we will be when dog is 15, and how much more difficult it is to re- train a middle aged rescue dog. We'll see on that one. Yes, ...

Animals on the line

At one stage between Here and There I was laying quite large amounts of moss, which makes quite effective scale grass, but it kept being pecked up and thrown about by one particular blackbird. I did put a sign up saying ' No blackbirds' but I can't understand why that didn't work. That winter the mo...

Re: Point lever

I like your point levers. I will try that method as and when my Tenmill ones start to wear out. See my post on 'long distance point control' in 'help and advice'.

Re: Post box

I'm afraid I'm still struggling with compressing photos. One tool I tried (not one of the suggestions) gave me a virus which has been quarantined. I need help with this.

Re: Long distance point control

You have probably sorted it now, but I have used the wire - in - tube method for the distance you quote and on a continuous curve. I used small copper tubing bought in reels, similar in size to tubing for hydraulic brakes but must not be used for brakes. I seem to remember buying it from RS. I also ...

Re: How to connect wiring for lighting?

I have solid concrete platforms with black roofing felt on the top surface. Wiring for lights goes under the roofing felt. I use permanent power supply except for trains, can't be bothered changing too many batteries. LEDs are very sensitive to over-voltage. A standard transformer will not necessari...

Re: Gas torches

Go System works OK and fills the steamers. Sometimes shops like 'Home Bargains' or 'In Excess' sell the canisters really cheaply so I keep several spares to hand stored outside the house.

Post box

I have just completed a post box. The main body is a piece of wooden dowel, which was probably once a broken broom handle. I have a policy, never throw anything away which may be of some use one day. The top is an oversize circular disc of lead sheet which was left over from repairs to the church ro...

Re: Is it me?

It is not you. I agree absolutely. My family and have been devout active but unworthy Christians throughout our lives, and the commercial advertising around Christmas is saddening. It seems the only organisation which does not advertise Christmas for financial gain is the Church.

Re: Building a Church

I have recently built a much simpler village church out of concrete. It stands up to the weather pretty well and to our resident squirrels and fox. Hope to post some pics soon. Yours looks really impressive.

Re: Flexible track

Flexible track is definitely the sort to use, but a rail bender is a must. They can be a bit pricey, but for my Peco track I bought just the three rollers with the correct profile for the Peco rail, mounted the 2 outer ones with bolts onto a block of wood so that they would turn, and mounted the cen...
