Re: Time to build a railway...but where?

Now I can see the colours in the light, it reminds me of the Vale of Ffestiniog funkey diesel livery. What colours are they actually? I've been trying to find a good match for a future Vale of Ffestiniog build, the closet I can find is RAL 6020 and RAL 6021. Having never seen the locomotive in perso...

This is brilliant! Lots of great techniques to learn for a future scratch build of my own! Can't wait to see the finished result.

letsencrypt have been offering free certificates for several years now, I'm not sure if all hosting providers would support them though as I imagine selling SSL certificates is quite lucrative. There is a list of hosting companies that support lets encrypt on their community forum over here For gen...

Re: Time to build a railway...but where?

Returning to the freelance bowsider carriage from The Lineside Hut, as shown above, I bought one kit to try with the intention of buying more to make a train of all three variants. The first kit is now under construction and I am very happy with it. Meanwhile, I discovered a job lot of these same c...

Re: Time to build a railway...but where?

Time to get kit building again, this time a bogie passenger/luggage coach from The Lineside Hut. I have built several of their kits and they have all turned out well as the design and cut of the high quality plywood parts is perfect. From the picture below you can see just how many parts are suppli...

Re: Time to build a railway...but where?

The glazing has also been fitted using canopy adhesive, which dries clear and leaves no marks. Currently the roof section is being painted and will be permanently stuck when finished. Looks brilliant Peter! For the interior glazing overlay, is that painted plasticard? Wondering if it might be easie...

Re: freelance carriage build

Skipping to the end, here is the completed carriage (bar interior finishing). I decided to try gold lining the inside edges of the overlay which I think adds a little extra to the look. Thanks for the tips earlier in this thread! Merged_document (2).jpg Here is the two carriages I've completed so fa...

Re: freelance carriage build

I've almost finished the second carriage in the rake. All that's left is some interior tidy ups to cover the perspex windows with some stained balsa wood. Less photos to share on this build. The first photo shows two stages with some bits skipped. The first half is all the kit parts laid out on the ...

Paint reaction question

Hello, While putting the finishing touches on my latest carriage build there seems to have been some reaction between the paint and clear coat. It was a bit cold but not freezing. IMG_0363.jpg I actually don't mind the finish on the roof but would be somewhat annoyed if that happened on body work. I...

Re: Time to build a railway...but where?

Just about finished, the whole transporter wagon has been sprayed with grey primer followed by matt black on the underside. The top has been hand painted with an acrylic colour wash to muck it up a little, the chequer plate I previously fitted to the side platforms has been dry brushed with a silve...

Re: Time to build a railway...but where?

What a curious wagon!

If I didn’t have such a backlog of carriage kits (and the £12 postage!) this would make an interesting foray into wagons! Looking forward to seeing how yours turns out.

Re: freelance carriage build

Decals from IP engineering were applied followed by a coat of semi gloss lacquer. Steps and hand rails were glued into position, as well as fitting the under frame and wheels. I splashed out on some brass handles from swift sixteen for the exterior. For the interior I used the supplied 3D printed pa...

Re: freelance carriage build

With the interior completed and the main body constructed, I started painting. The roof was assembled and painted as well as the ~ 10 layer sides for the under frame. First off I covered the windows + roof opening with masking tape from the inside to protect the stained interior. The carriage was th...

freelance carriage build

My latest project to while away the hours has been to build a freelance victorian guards carriage kit from Jeremy Irwin. Having only built IP engineering kits previously I was blown away by the quality and contents of this kit. Other than glazing (and paint!), everything you need to build a highly d...

Re: livery inspiration

Be very careful George. Like Peter said, it's very hard to do once the overlays have been put on. I did and what I mess I made of it....You however may have a steadier hand..... I gave it a go on the guard duckets as I hadn't fitted the overlays. Suffice to say, I'm not going to try and gold line t...
