I much prefer it with the deepened frames, the high riding appearance was too USA for me!
I'm glad you like the railings too. Much more in keeping with the period I think.
All three together will be nice looking train, keep posting developments on the interior as well.

I like the look of that very much! The open top lights are a nice touch and the slope of the roof makes them stand out from the norm.
It looks like a 'stained glass' effect in the windows, how is that done?

How is it constructed? Looks like a combination of wood and plasticard.

Our service men and women are always proud to be seen in uniform to show allegiance and therefore become easy targets. It is interesting, and timely, that Prince Charles has today requested religious tolerance to try to put an end to such acts. It is a small gesture but hopefully one which will spre...

Beautiful indoor line with nice scenic work. Not too fussy, just enough to create the right image.

There is a full build description of the DeWinton, along with improvements and further detailing written by Steve Holland, a friend of mine.  If you Google: narrowgaugeandindustrial.com/resources/dewinton it should show. It will be top of the list!

CAR-TOONS

At yet another local exhibition today, we exhibited alongside a lady modeller who produces the most wonderful 'play-on-words' items I have ever seen! These are just a few of the ones she had on display today, but many more have been published in magazine articles and most seem to have won competitio...

For my paintwork I have used acrylic, both brushed and sprayed depending on location. The smokebox was sprayed with matt black and finally given a seal coat of acrylic lacquer. I have fired the loco several times since with no effect on the paint at all.

I am most envious of your candlesticks.... they are just what Emett would have used in his full sized 'things' and complete the picture beautifully.

My 'Billy' was built from one of these kits, not by myself but by a friend who is well into retirement with little engineering experience and minimum equipment. ./myff/1814202/IMG_2321.JPG Since buying it from him I have stripped it with the spanners and Allen keys supplied with the kit, fitted RC a...

Mr Emett would be delighted with your work... it looks the part and I particularly like the cab roof!
Let us know about the power supply as it will need a battery as opposed to your usual preference for clockwork.

Thanks Jim, I tried to make it in the style of Emett taking the colour scheme from his illustrations in the book...'Nellie comes home'.
It has the desired effect of jogging peoples memory (those of a certain age similar to mine!) who remember the Festival Railway of 1951.

I do like the idea of raising the roof on your Bachmann coaches Rik. I must admit I hadn't thought of that! Equally, I am impressed by your orderly storage on the workbench. How anyone works with clutter all around them and tools misplaced is a mystery to me. Organised and tidy workspace is the way ...

Hi Rik,  many thanks for your kind comments, I'm so pleased you enjoy my ramblings and find them encouraging..... always pleased to pass on my experiences, either good or bad! The Cambrian bolt heads are so fiddly to deal with, especially as they are cone shaped and can't be picked up with tweezers....

On the 1951 Festival of Britain passenger railway the station name had to be altered to 'Far Tottering' for legal reasons. There are several photographs available and I even have drawings of its construction.
That has to be on the list!

I have managed to finish the roof slates with individual coloured paper squares (3 colours) stuck down with PVA and finished with weathering powder and matt varnish. Also...
