Is this the sort of thing you are thinking of, Phil? ( as a f'rinstance)

Give us some dimensions and I'm sure one of us can come up with something to suit.

Re: Atropos Rolling Stock Kits
It’s strange that Martin (of Atropos) states it on all the build instructions as he’s so particular and precise (in a good way), if people cannot determine what it relates to. Even if it was an historical measure, I’d have expected to find some reference on the internet! A new one on me too, I've b...

Sorry for the delay! I've finished it- see HOW TO: Gif-izing a video
Although I managed to do a very simple version for my coupling gif, I never managed to work out how to get the resizing etc to work, so this looks very helpful.

Re: Gmeinder & Co loco
Coming back to my loco, I'm open to thoughts on 'red'. As I mentioned some while back, German railways are well known for red wheels etc. I kind of had it in mind that in military service this wouldn't have had that embellishment and the red axles boxes, etc, in the original photo could have been pa...

Re: Gmeinder & Co loco
Yes, it is a fascinating location. What really struck me though, was the speeds they were running at. More like a lot of toy train layouts than a proper railway! They obviously don't pay a lot of attention to 'elf 'n safety, 'due diligence', 'risk assessment', etc, either.

Rod, I think the whole point of a thread like this one is that at the end of the day, between us we've worked out what is and isn't doable, so that you don't need to understand the technicalities, just follow the final "recipe". I'm hoping that this weekend I will have the whole loco finis...

Re: The Railway in the Valley of the Mill
It has been so wet here that Dinah has only got 2 of her beds ready to plant, and one planted up. Much the same everywhere I think,Trevor. We certainly haven't been able to get out and do anything more than a bit of pruning of last years die back. Still, it's good to see the railway is still making...

Re: Gmeinder & Co loco
Thanks Rik, I wouldn't argue about that. Either way it isn't part of the loco, so I'm not too fussed as to what it actually is.

Re: Gmeinder & Co loco
You may remember a few weeks back we had some discussion about what the red blobs are, by the blackout headlight in the original photo. Well, this morning I was looking at the pictures to get the correct position for drilling the headlight mounting hole, when I realised that there are no red blobs o...

Re: Cheapo diesel sound card
I have glued a piece of expanded neoprene rubber in front of the speaker. It is like wet suit material, and sold for gaskets. It has reduced the sound level - to my ear to an appropriate level. Reasonably loud when the loco is near me but as it goes further away the volume diminishes until I can ju...

Welcome to the forum Harry.
What you are suggesting sounds fine to me. If you haven't already seen Rik's "Peckforton" you really should take a look at his many threads on here and/or the Blog itself.

Re: The First Great Project...
Some works are being done 'in contemplation of' and it'll be a few months (or maybe a year+? - sorry philipy!) before they see any railway related activity. But if I can get the heavy civil engineering work done and ready for me to do my bit, then I can do that in my own time and without being unde...

Re: Cheapo diesel sound card
How about a bit of foam in front of the speaker to absorb some sound? I am going to experiment with that to see how much of the speaker needs to be "obstructed". Be interested to know how you get on. I did try putting a piece of 2mm plasticard in front of the speaker and it didn't seem to...
