They look great. A coat or two of paint really brings a build together. Those bug boxes look very tasty!

Re: Any ideas as to the origin of this loco?
I must have drawings of the F class. I'm away atm but be back home tomorrow and I'll rout them out and let you have them. Sorry, I've searched high and low but can't find those drawings, I'm afraid, and I've no idea where I got them from originally, 30 years ago! Just a thought, but following the t...

Re: (WH)WHR Rolling Stock
I think most of the passenger carrying lines had fitted carriages, but not all - I don't think the Talyllyn did until the 1990s! The gradient there's all one way, so I guess they just always had a guards van on the downhill end of the train! The Southwold never had continuous braking and they didn'...

Re: Nolwyn Valley Tramway
Thanks guys! Rod, I'll have to look into that... I think I can kind of picture it. I'm thinking for now I'll probably make some slightly chunkier pulleys and find some rubber O-rings that will fit, (as I've done with MOKE, see post #1) but I've also been looking into small chains. Unless I redesign...

Re: Any ideas as to the origin of this loco?
Presumably, the slightly taller similar locos don't have the dropped footplate? Sorry, I thought I'd checked the numbers before I hit the post button. The driving wheel dia. on Anita was 2' 4"...... Unlike some builders, if their catalogue is anything to go by, Hunslet don't seem to have mad...

Re: Any ideas as to the origin of this loco?
That Manning Wardle lining's quite something! I've just noticed a couple of nice details, namely the back of the cab overhanging the rear bufferbeam, and the bufferbeams themselves, which appear to have curved (concave) cutaways instead of straight corners... Looks like the Steelworks and Abertille...

Re: Any ideas as to the origin of this loco?
That's really helpful, thanks Graeme. Once I've got one dimension I can use it to work out the others.

In the absence of any drawings, I'll have to go off this photo.
Graeme, does your book mention any key dimensions such as the diameter of the drivers?

Doing a bit of research and I'm assured the smaller Manning Wardles were similar to Hunslets ..... I feel vindicated in my original assumptions.

Re: Any ideas as to the origin of this loco?
Thanks for the info, chaps. If it is based on a standard gauge design, I might be able to track down a plan drawing and adapt it (I'm hoping), otherwise It might end up as one of my 'inspired by the original' models. Judging by the gradient profile for the line, the drivers will have had their work ...

Any ideas as to the origin of this loco?
Over the weekend, I made a trip to the Etruria Bone and Flint MIll in Stoke to see their beam engine in action. Whilst there, I picked up a couple of books - one entitled "Stone and Steam in the Black Mountains" by David Tipper. It outlines the building of Grwyne Fawr Dam and Reservoir which include...

As I understand it, if a topic is shown as red, it means there is a post or more you haven't read, if it's in black ( or blue on my screen) there are no new threads to read. You can check this by clicking on a red forum and reading what is shown there in red then going back and refreshing the origin...

Re: 5" gauge "small" driving truck
Love to see a video of the train being driven. It's difficult to judge the scale in relation to its full size human cargo. Whereas I'm not a great fan of live steam in 16mm scale, I do like the idea of a live steam miniature loco capable of pulling real people. Don't ask me to explain why there's a ...

At Clarach, for some reason (because I don't actually have a quarry, perhaps??!) So time to stop messing about with fancy observation cars for the pampered public, and get yourself a quarry built and properly generate some revenue!!  I am sometimes tempted to flog Russell, the Baldwin et...
