Re: Camera Vehicle

I use a cheap 2.4 GHz camera and receiver set built into a bogie passenger wagon. The bogies compensate quite well. The wagon is a former GDR production with a bakelite body so the antenna is hidden inside. Powered by a 9V block battery it gives good service. Any disturbancies created by switching p...

Re: Next overhaul project....

Happe new year! December 31th she did the first lap under her own steam. This is a big step after getting just a few metres on December 26th. Niagara falls have been removed from the backhead, other minor jobs have been completed. (And new jobs identified of course) Next on the list: - engine pump i...

Re: Next overhaul project....

Got a few metres under her own steam today, but the backhead looks like a miniature version of the Niaragra Falls.

So back to the workshop.

We have a working water pump.

Of course, both balls were stuck in their seats.
Still waiting for good weather to have a test run.

Re: Next overhaul project....

Finally got around to make the firehole door.
As there is almost no space around it this was a bit tricky.
Clearances to any boiler fitting are 1mm.

Now I am waiting fo the storm to go somewhere else so I can test the loco.

Re: Next overhaul project....

Started running on air last weekend.

Smokebox horse has received a replacement tail.

Found suitable mounting positions for whistle and valve.

Firehole door still to be made.

Maybe she will run under her own steam still this year.

Re: Next overhaul project....

some progress: first coat of Vermillion on the buffer beams, first coat of mid Brunswick green on the wheels and some minor parts. Paint is good quality but takes a long time to dry. Next steps will be painting other parts and making a firehole door. I have a whistle and matching valve but no idea y...

Re: Next overhaul project....

She´s in bits now, so this is the only picture I can show: https://up.picr.de/46723455tf.jpg Had to get a broken screw out of the regulator assembly (fortunately the remaninig bit was long enough). Removed some play and clatter from the motion, modified the buffer beams, fixed many small issues. But...

We have a winner.

Part-finished 5" model. I just removed a broken bolt from the cylinder block.
She still needs quite a bit of work.

Pics to follow.

Where to buy a horse?

My next restoration project needs a new Aveling & Porter horse:

This one has lost its tail.
Height is 3.1 cm.

No 3D prints please as this one goes right onto the smokebox door.

Re: Static points, has anybody created a working set?

These stub points cannot be trailed. A friend has two of that type on his 5" gauge layout. Another driver wanted to pass from the siding onto the main line. Was going fast and did not check the track (and point positions) ahead. One point was in the wrong position and she and her loco ploughed ...

Re: Wotton Tramway, Brill Branch

You are absolutely right. Many alterations have been made during its lifetime. Now the issue is to decide which state to choose for my model. Same applied to another 5" gauge loco. The stages of modification of the prototype were: Claud Hamilton D16/1, D16/2, D16/3 Super Claud So I went with th...

Re: Wotton Tramway, Brill Branch

That might also clarify the "box" on the running board near the rear buffer beam. Were these sanders just buckets with a pipe through the bottom? Were there any means of sanding when needed or was this an "always on" gravity and rattle method? These containers would be suitable f...
