Apart from the fact you don't sound a bit like Ringo, I thought that production was just brilliant!

Beautifully mature scenic lines. I would love to be able to recreate that effect on my line but I fear it would take years to achieve.

I too have plasticard models (16mm) which are approaching 40 years old. All are in stable condition and do not appear to have become brittle, however, I will admit they have been kept in boxes when not in use and only then used on indoor exhibition layouts, away from damaging UV. Below is 'George', ...

Plasticard makes a strong model in 16mm and although I haven't attempted the drop-kick test yet, I believe it would outlive a similar wooden construction.

I might give one a go in plastic. What thickness do you use? I know there are a few sheets knocking about but in rather bright red and green. I doubt the colour much matters though.  The colour is not important, neither is the thickness particularly.  I tend to use a thicker sheet for rigid section...

She's a beauty but with all that plumbing I would hesitate to use it outside with the potential of derailing and scraping along stonework!

The last time we met she only discussed my role in museum work but next time I will pass on your concerns!

Nice van , but the roof on the cattle wagon looks a bit warped..................... You're right about the roof Brian. The reason is because it is not yet fixed to the body as I still want to install cattle inside. The material I glued to the plastic has distorted the shape slightly but nothing tha...

And another........

I can't stand football! What a waste of time! No interest in the Grand National either. So...... what to do on a wet Saturday (again?) I know, I'll build a model. The last one, cattle truck, was based on those used on the W&L, so I opened the book to find something else which would go with it. T...

Bazzer, yes I use a razor saw for the wood grain effect, and it works very well. I cut each piece to size first, then use the saw on all visible sides. If the piece is to be used as a step or buffer beam I also scratch the grain with a Stanley knife blade to make deeper grooves which give a more wor...

My education in Swamp Dragons is clearly lacking! Here in Wales we only have one type of dragon and everyone knows all there is to know about them.
Can I see an example of yours please?

You're too kind Brian.... I only show the method I use, not try to teach others how to do it. Anyhow, back to the build. Today has been less productive due to other family matters. However, the next job on my list was to give a spray paint. This grey seems to be a good base colour for finish and wea...

Thanks for the pictures Peter. It certainly is a beautiful van. One to be proud of and a fine example to those of us who fancy having ago at our own self builds. What running gear is it sitting on? Today's build....

This morning (Thursday) is the day I am forced to go out with SWMBO to do the family shop! YUK!!!!! I know it has to be done but it wastes so much modelling time. On the other hand, it gives me thinking time to plan my next project, and by the time we got back home, had lunch and walked the dogs, I ...

I always thought I would go wood with wagons but these plastic marvels make me wonder.  It is a nice medium to work with. I could work with wood as I have many years of practise behind me making picture frames and furniture. I choose to work in plastic as it can be easily cut and shaped, and glued ...
