Re: Finishing the unfinished

Any idea who manufactured them? I could do with a couple of sets myself. Andrew I got them from a stall at Elsecar Show. There were several for sale so they are presumably marketed by someone. I half-remember that the stall was Classic Cinema (which have a website Classic Loco) based in Cleethorpes...

Re: Finishing the unfinished

I seem to have a butterfly approach to modelling and so the last two days has seen no more progress on the station building, but this is why: Cast iron skew underbridge.png I have been constructing a cast-iron (style) skew underbridge for the Rylston Station approach over the last two days. The star...

Re: Finishing the unfinished

Thanks for all the positive comments. In response to some tof the comments. The design of the building is adapted from LNWR Conwy Valley Line at Roman Bridge. It was adapted for the geometry of JigStones and had the booking office arch added. In addition it is a mirror image to fit in better with th...

Re: RWLR bogie flat wagons

The flat wagon is nice, but I love the buffer stop. Redolent of an impoverished company that presses anything half-way suitable into service. Excellent or though the erstwhile Mr Isle might have had a different opinion.

Re: Finishing the unfinished

Thanks for encouragement about rehab to work. As promised some outside shots of Rylston Station building mocked up on a board. Very much work in progress but I have temporarily dressed it up with accessories to assess its potential. The signs are easy as they are fixed by magnets embedded in the Jig...

Gentlemen of another sort

I got all excited by the recent post “gentlemen” as I thought it was about toilets! And might provide a solution for my impasse. I have two Station buildings now with outside toilets, and I’m struggling to make urinals. I am surprised that third party accessories are not available (to my knowledge),...

Re: Overhead belt pulley wheels

Hi, this may not be the answer you are looking for. I wanted a redundant lineshaft in the Rylston Light's workshop. As this was originally intended as a simple stage for photographing models I had a "low fidelity" approach to background detail on the basis it is mainly blurred. I sort of l...

Re: Finishing the unfinished

Hi, the unfinished projects are still being whittled down. Fortunately my health improves, but unfortunately this means I'm expected to go back to work. Funny that they won't consider paying me to make a 16mm world indefinitely! Rylston Station building is still cluttering my desk, but much of the e...

Re: Finishing the unfinished

Your pics. have me scrutinizing the background in addition to the main subject, did you add the fan behind the radiator on the diesel? Love the overhead line shafting, HO wheels with the flange turned off perhaps. (be a bit of whip running anything off the centre pulleys ;) ) Timber workshops alway...

Re: Finishing the unfinished

The Lister may have stalled awaiting electrics, but the workshop lads have pressed ahead with No 6 Observation Coach (aka "The Lady of the Dales"). Bob worked into the gloom of the late afternoon finishing the lining, but of course Old Davey (who hangs around the workshop) knows a better w...

Re: Finishing the unfinished

Well, there was a hiatus with another hospital admission, but there has been progress on some projects. The railcar has been glazed and horns put on so that is pretty much finished: railcar completed.png The snowploughs are fitted to the diesel, No 4. Below are the re-railing bars ready for re-fitti...

Re: Finishing the unfinished

That looks good, yes Its a technique I use for heavier weathering such as the ballast hoppers (first picture this thread). I have tried the technique with an partial undercoat of “real” rust but this can be hit and miss. When it works it is great. Also It is no great problem if you don’t notice all ...

Re: Finishing the unfinished

One from the archives. This was the Lister in April 2002. Horrid livery and dodgy weathering, but there really wasn't the same returns when searching on the internet for Lister images. Funny how you don't think your modelling or photography skills improve until you see an old image. All the rolling ...

Have you tried the Humbrol range of weathering washes?
Looked at them with uncertainty, but saved from the decision by the sheer amount of empty spaces on the rack!

Re: Finishing the unfinished

Thanks everyone The Lister project continues with a look at the livery in daylight. As you can see it looks better for matting down and some light weathering. Lister reflection.png A slightly elevated view allows a comparison of weathering techniques. I find weathering where the surface is worn away...
