Re: Semi-scale BR: almost the first train of spring 2020
Lovely. My only objection is the “spot the weeds” comment near the end: I’ve been out pulling up handfuls of nettles and brambles this afternoon - that’s what we call weeds in Yorkshire.

Re: The Rylston Light Railway - work still in progress
Trying to imagine how you got the camera positioned for that depth of field. Grant. The camera was balanced on a lens cap to gain “eye-height”, the aperture was set to f22 and it was focussed on a point about 1/3 of the scene ie where the pit starts. I try to get most of the foreground in focus at ...

It’s spring, and I thought you all deserve a postcard from a Covid19-free world.

Re: Time to build a railway...but where?
Although given that chess men come in different sizes, a 1/24 set might work if there is such a thing. Actually, short lengths of plain plasticard rod, might be enough to suggest the pieces? This set is a snip at £. . . https://www.etsy.com/listing/235598394/handcarved-chess-set-miniature-with You’...

Re: The Rylston Light Railway (Mark 2)
That is the effect I am after, Grant, but the difficulty I have is being hemmed in by house walls, and the garden width gives no depth to use distant 1:1 vegetation as a back drop. The adjoining properties abut right up to the boundary of my garden so their house walls are the boundary itself. Cheap...

Wow, that is shallower than it looked. The perspective is excellent, well done.

Re: A P.O. van for the E&D
Nice combination of old and new modelling techniques. And nice end-product. It’s a shame that P.O. vans were rare on narrow gauge, there is something about a train of P.O. wagons that is very attractive.

Re: A Home Wi-Fi Connected Garden Railway
Hopefully more or less on topic, in the original post Micheal, you refer to controlling signals etc. I have dabbled in microprocessor control (albeit Picaxe and arduino) and tested them outside. The ultimate plan was to control lighting, points and signals.I am worried about the longevity of the mic...

Re: The Rylston Light Railway (Mark 2)
Hope I'm not hi-jacking your thread here Andy . . . Grant. No hijacking involved Grant, The concept of the RLR mark2 is all about viewpoint (and therefore photographs) leading into the miniscape. The more discussion about photographs the better before my plans move from CAD to reality :study: . I w...

Just a bit of fun - hope it is viewable at this resolution.
Seems all right on preview. No prizes on spotting the mouse . Apologies to the late Terence (and his daughter) who was/is a hero (heroine) of mine.

Re: The Rylston Light Railway (Mark 2)
. . . although I tend to use sticks, bricks, buckets anything of the height required (used two brooms crossed yesterday for a boat pic.) instead of a tripod . . . . . . the engine and rolling stock (generally the focus of a pic, though it doesn't have to be) should appear in the scene not on it. Gr...

Re: The Rylston Light Railway (Mark 2)
. . . but I think you might have had some practise. And an awful lot of duds :) Thé secret to good model photos, IMO, low viewpoint, high f-number, tripod and lots of repetition. Little Weighton station was mocked up with the run-down windows during a renovation; it spends most of its time in a muc...

Re: The Rylston Light Railway (Mark 2)
In fact Rev Calstock managed access to the running shed at Rylston in 1954.
In reality both Little Weighton and Rylston running shed will be incoporated into the RLR mark 2, should nothing occur to prevent.

Re: The Rylston Light Railway (Mark 2)
Of course things weren't always as rosy-coloured as the RLR in preservation and the Rev Calstock ventured to Little Weighton in the closure years. The building was a little worse for wear: Closure notice.jpg The general view from the kissing gate: LW in closure.png The ambient winter weather in the ...

I have several times referred to hunting out some old photos of the (now-defunct) Rylston Light Railway (mark 1), but I thought it would be tidier to have a separate thread

The Rylston Light Railway (Mark 2)
Well, in my thread "Finishing the unfinished" I have referred a few times to the Rylston Light Railway mark 2, and should nothing occur to prevent, this is where I will keep you up to date. But nothing really to excite you all at present; just the removal of some huge Leylandii (not by me!...

Re: Finishing the unfinished
PS 1979 the start of your railway perhaps? can't tell if its an 8 or 9 It’s 1879. The putative history is that the RLR was first incorporated as a Tramway before being reincorporated as a light railway after the Light Railway Act was enacted. The original date was going to be 1889, but I didn’t hav...
