I prime with holts greybandnthen (foolishly) I've adopted to humbrol greys as stock colours for body and underframes. 67 tank grey for underframe and sea grey body. I like the lettering Mr T, got brace myself to try on my stock. I think we may become the Vale of Fairway Rly allowing me to make a V a...

That looks very nice, I may have to "steal" that idea (with proper credit and a suitable discount of course). I have actually been working on a superstructure for the flatbed but am still undecided about the corner reinforcements. I want to make a press to add rivet detail to plastruct pr...

PS forgot to say I also glued two pieces of artficial slate with mastic to the under side of the chassis to give some additional weight. It tips the scales at nearly 7.5 oz

I'm adding whitemetal IP Hudson boxes to the first van kit so the weight is creeping up already.

The ends are 4.8mm plastruct L and the curves are exactly the same as Mrs Bs flan dish inner (our secret being as its aluminium and cuts easy :( ). The diameter of this fitted nicely on a single 10mm plank and the width of the wagon.

Busted Bricks kit bash

My first thread so sorry if it goes bottom up. I've posted this as a sort of thank you to Mike for his easy to put together wagon kits. I started this flat conversion last Saturday as an experiment with scored ply as I quite fancy scratch building. An experiment in cutting .8mm planks failed dismall...

Mixed results on the wheel trials behind Lady Anne and a battery diesel they towed find, however a reverse move through an R1 back to back was a failure. The accucraft appear to be unhappy although one of the points is notoriously unpredictable. I might try fitting some rik type discs this week and ...

Wait til you fit a chuffer. I've only had live steam for 2 months but lighting my lady Anne that I have added a chuffer can be quite hair raising/removing.
Ps wife loved the driver - Sylvanian Tennant?

Looking Mr T. I fear I will need to revisit my ip open and add some sole bar detail, it looks so much better. To kill time before the arrival of a baguley I have invested in an ip brake. I will have a look later and see how much detail it hasn't got. It's sunny so I will try running my wagons for th...

Thanks John, The gutter ing tip is clever, so much easier to cut a 25mm length than a complete length! I think I will have a go at a single road engine shed with an overhead water tank as I have limited space. I will try your slates and gutters ideas but will try scribing bricks - starting with the ...

I take my hat off to you, I'm not sure I have the patience to lay individual bricks. Do you use plastic for guttering and drainpipes because they are also very convincing? Do you use poly cement to lay slates and bricks? I have considered slate laying but wondered what glue to use for a building tha...

That's fantastic. It must be one of the finest buildings I've seen in a long time. Do you scribe the bricks or use sheet? Any tips you can share on construction methods greatly appreciated. There are threads on the forums that inspire and this is definitely one of those. Thanks for posting on a mise...

Phew! Thanks Keith and William, I too have never thought about removing although I do have a pot of Bond Loc remover :D I always build a little slop in the running - is that bad? I always come back to the first three solo sylvians with Gone to Earth figuring in my leaving ceremony. Mmmmm thought, wi...

I agree on the ipe wheels they don't inspire confidence. The one I've just finished has Bachmann wheels that unfortunately pushes the solebars out so the bland wood is more prominent. I'm going to try some busted brick vans to detail and to QA the wheels. 160 rivets or Manafon? Give me rivets any da...

Thanks Sylvian you have shamed me twice. I finished an ip 3/4 plank wagon yesterday and thought how plain the solebars look. In addition Mrs B is wondering why men love to work in clutter and have more than one project on the go! She says it isn't logical...... The solebars look far better tarted up...

Re: Gas Problems...

... held it over the chimney ... The gas we use is heavier than air, so try putting the match/lighter under the front buffer beam instead. This should give easier ignition but also avoids the loco standing in a "puddle" of gas which can then ignite when the gas reaches the top of the chim...

Thanks Michael. I've got some bachmann wheelsets that need using up so those bronze bearings look a good buy. It will be nice to try a laser cut kit. I rushed in and bought a couple of kits with my Lady Anne and they look like they will need some serious fettling.

16mm Today sent me to the website, I was planning on scratchbuilding some box vans but these make a great base to add some strapping and possibly tweaking the doors to open. I' ll be ordering a couple before the offer ends. Two quid is two quid! Thanks for the review Brian. Do you know the axle diam...
