Re: Mamod SL1 Vs Mamod Mk3
SL1 is by far the more aesthetically pleasing but the MK3 is what the spec should have been - o ringed piston heads, lubricator, copper boiler, gas firing etc...

Re: Roundhouse
Roundhouse are brilliant. On both experiences with them direct, they've been top notch:- 1)Reboilering a Lady Anne with a Billy Boiler. They advertise the "boiler kit" [all fittings etc]. Didn't need that, just the boiler barrel and wrap. Called them up. Could they do just the barrel and w...

Re: End of Season Pictures
Hi again gents, As said, there is more where that came from. That trip to Butterley marked the beginning of Autumn running, but it was a trip to a new venue this year for me - Echills Wood Railway that saw the later-autumn steaming arise. This particular occasion was Remembrance Sunday and so loos, ...

Re: End of Season Pictures
Sure. These were taken one quiet Wednesday at Butterley in mid September. The sun was high and bright, but it was low enough to tell that it was autumn and not high summer anymore. https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4614/24898936807_a71de775de_b.jpg https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4724/24898941197_3b3fba...

Very good Pete! I did with these in 2015 and my diary thread is here :- https://gardenrails.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=39&t=10123&start=30 However, my photos have been 'photobucketed' :( - could reupload them on this thread as a guide if welcome? https://www.tapatalk.com/groups/modelsteam/ima...

Fraid so doug c --- BTP were about as useful as a chocolate fireguard and closed the case last summer [2016]. The loco has been stolen to history, unless it is sat somewhere in a storage or a workroom awaitng a chance to reemerge. My worst fear is that someone in the hobby that doesn't [or does!] re...

I now use Flickr. Good for sharing but a pain to copy and paste as each link has to be edited too. PB had a mass link-copying feature which is sorely missed.

Re: Mamod upgrade
Those Janet boilers have no dome though, do they have the plastic sight glass and standard position of bolts on the backhead for the fixing thereof? Nope and nope. No dome - not needed, but Swift 16 do an aftermarket dome that sits on top of the water filler valve. The RWM copper boilers don't have...

Re: Loco Wheel painting
I did this for my Bertie.
The treads, ie the rail-contacting part I kept unpainted - why bother painting them?
The fronts of the wheels were first painted in etch primer, smoothed with ultra fine wet 'n' dry, then painted with topcoat.

Re: RH Bulldog and Roy Wood Salem
Personally I'm going for a Salem when I get a diesel. First off - I trust RWM's range and if the diesel/battery is as good as the Mamod / Jane range then it'll be excellent. Secondly, it has brass gearing, not nylon or plastic which gives me assurance of extra strength and gears won't go so easily....

Would totally recommend an RWM Janet instead. Copper boilers, sight glasses, reliable lubrication and supercylinders and so compact too.
I miss my 060 beast.

New boilers for SL-standard Mamods? Yes -try Roy Wood Models. He does his copper Janet boilers as spares too. I have had pleasure of a couple from him in my time and they work very nicely.

Re: Roundhouse Slidebars and Crossheads
Haven;t got any video, but csan confirm it seemed to make the running of 'Vixen' a little smoother - not sure why but every little helps. :) Same principle has been applied to my Bertie, "Fennec" - it received a Karen double-line I slidebar set instead of the Basic Series options and work...
