Re: Cats and Dogs Railway (austrian narrow gauge)
Yesterday evening I did make an upgrade to the turntable. It wasn't that stable on it's bearing as I hoped, so I drilled a hole through the middle of the bridge and the axle of the bearing and put a bolt through it. On the underside I placed 2 belleville washers which pull the bridge onto the bearin...

Re: Two Dogs Railway
If you don't know it's a scale railway, you would think it's real. Does the track keep in place this way when it rains?

Re: Cats and Dogs Railway (austrian narrow gauge)
Well, to my surprise the mrs didn't make a big point of me building the new extension. I had to promise a few new garden chairs and then it was fine..  But I had to promise that I won't convert the whole garden into a railway.. I promised I won't do that (yet) and crossed my fingers behin...

Re: Cats and Dogs Railway (austrian narrow gauge)
And yes, there is an extention to the line! Since the board under the station area has gotten bad and started to rot, I made a new board along the gardenwall besides the terrace. Here I installed the turntable and made a nice headshunt station with spurs to service the locomotives and put away some ...

Re: simple turntable
Thanks, I'm not nervous about the forces on the bearing, but normally these are used in pairs, locking themselves in position. This one is missing it's counterpart and relies on gravitation to stay in place. Therefore, when a locomotive rolls onto the bridge, it could move the bridge down, because o...

Re: Enlargement - Part the Second.
Well, I must honestly say that I had absolutely no clue that coal could get "off".. In the links provided it seems that when stored for a longer time in rain or on a pile outside (where it can get hot in the middle) the flamable content of the coal whashes out or vapourizes. So I also lear...

Re: simple turntable
There will be drain holes. There is in fact one just below the bearing, the big axle in the middle has a slot should water get in the bearing. In every quarter there has to be a drain added when the turntable is placed in it's position..

Re: simple turntable
The only thing it has in common with Riks turntable is that it's round.  The darjeling turntable looks much better with the double rails on the base, but is also much larger. The parts in the metalbin where fitting so nicely together this way, that I just went for the easiest and best wor...

Re: Enlargement - Part the Second.
Regarding the coal, one of our members informed me that as the coal had been acquired last year it had gone off..... Didn't you know that? It's like wine, you've got good an bad years in coal. 2017 coal was fine, a bit earthy flavour, but a nice burn and red hot glow. When I read you tried 2018 coa...

Re: The End Of FWLR
It's a sad thing you've to dismantle your railway, may be there is a chance of building a station on a baseboard which is movable? With a few settracks you can then build a simple layout on a sunday afternoon somewhere, so you can still run trains now and then. Or try a switch puzzle like an Ingleno...

simple turntable
Hello everyone, Since my railway is due to an upgrade soon, in which the station will be changed to an endstation, I thought that the end of the station spurs could be connected with a segmentswitch or turntable. This saves a lot of length, and gives me the oppurtunity to service the locomotives bef...

I wouldn't be happy in that locomotive with a big barrel as that pointed at my head. Talking of stress situations at the job.. Great train!

Re: Cats and Dogs Railway (austrian narrow gauge)
the sharp curves are "lead in" by curves of a wider radius. So it's more oval shaped then round. The really sharp curves (LGB R1) are only in the middle. The graduate narrowing of the radius is easy on the locomotive, even with speed. On the eye they seem less sharp than ones made with R1 ...

Re: A Burnt Burner?
It doesn't look melted to me. Ik looks cracked. It's usually a form of material fatique, caused by normal wear. Each time you light the burner, it gets hot, expands and after cooling down it shrinks again. This creates tension in the material and after a while it can crack. If you use another fuel t...

Another small video of the freshly painted "Tierwis" with a new chimney and chuffer. https://youtu.be/6nlkx9hCfPI the railway will be changed a bit, the baseplate of the station area is starting to rot, since water has come under the roofingfelt. I've premission  to move the station n...

Re: 'New' crane for the GWLR
Great cars! I also love the tractor. Must get one on a flatcar as well, they really look nice. The crane is also a brilliant piece of british engineering though I would give the gears a bit of blackish/ blueish grease to prevent excessive wear..
