Re: Bagnall 284
I'll bet that's another superb model Steve. You really have the hang of the design process, let alone the printing!

Mmmm - that looks 'crusty' several more in similar condition and you would have the makings of Barry scrapyard in the 60's and 70's.

Re: Oil tankers
. . . and found it to be ridiculously heavy with the solid resin tank, so I remodelled that part using a length of drainpipe (and copious nail gems as rivets) instead. Thanks for heads up as I did wonder. Andy S. If you run on short radius curves as I usually do, putting one in the wrong place in a...

Re: Oil tankers
Another really atmospheric photo! I have one of those Swift Sixteen tankers, and found it to be ridiculously heavy with the solid resin tank, so I remodelled that part using a length of drainpipe (and copious nail gems as rivets) instead. The resin tank finished up as an above ground diesel storage ...

Re: New Live Steam Owner
Whether to use tap water depends on your local supply - I use it because we don't get limescale where I live. Water from a dehumidifier is okay, but needs to be clean. I found it nearly impossible to get rid of the bits of lint etc. that got entrained along with the moisture. It would also seem that...

Re: New Live Steam Owner
Welcome to the steaming fraternity! Grade of steam oil is dependent on the make of locomotive - what have you 'acquired'? :D Almost inevitably, you'll be undoing or tightening nuts etc, so a set of nut spinners and precision screwdrivers are handy to have. A suitable adapter for your gas canister is...

Re: Northfield Tramway
I spy a fine example of an original Deltang Tx22 there, Phil. Rik And it's still going strong Rik, made by my good self from one of the kits. I still have a couple of receivers in stock, one I have intended to install my in Ragleth for quite a while now, and one day I might, although I'm ...

Re: Northfield Tramway
While waiting on some parts to arrive I also made a start on an open tram which will be used as a trailer, this of course also needed a new truck, the only thing I have decided on for the trail is the electrical connection between the two vehicles as they won't be permanently coupled I need to find...

Re: Simulated brass effects
Thanks all. Your advice as always is appreciated. As I have said above, I'm going to try Alclad II and see how I get on, but the Mr Metal is only £3.50 for a tinlet, so I'm going to get that as well!. Graeme, I have used a gold lining pen on small items in the past, but on larger surfaces it gives a...

Re: Simulated brass effects
Looks very similar product to the old Humbrol Metalcoat range. They were quite effective but did not like handling. Although Humbrol do not do a brass finish. My personal "go to" is the Alclad ll range https://www.alclad2-online.co.uk/product/alclad-ii-alc-109-polished-brass/ . Like Humbr...

Simulated brass effects
Has anyone any experience with getting a realistic brass effect on plastic items? I've never really been that impressed with simple paint finishes (Humbrol, Revell etc.) but have been recommended trying this item metal colour brass , which, once dry is apparently buffable to achieve a metallic finis...

Re: Can you tell what it is yet?
A good friend of mine took the time and patience to put some lining on my loco for me. I think he has done a brilliant job and I am very very happy with it. He also put on some coal bunkers for me which I didn't know he was going to do so that was a very pleasant surprise. Just some name plates and...

Thank you. And, indeed! We've had to resort to a short electrified fence to discourage each years herd from eating the ballast, line, scenery, etc etcSylvian Tennant wrote: ↑Fri Jun 04, 2021 9:56 am Some lovely work there fellah. I'm also loving your quadrupedal admirers.

You could design the rail equivalent of this, and then trim top and sides!

Re: Cheap and dirty point rodding
I have two points operated by bicycle brake cable in tube, one quite short, about 2 ft. the other at least 3m. in length. They have been in operation for some years now and work faultlessly. . Hi Peter, Yes, now they are set up they work well - it was that initial 'calibrating' that I found to be t...

It's known now as Butanone, although still available on Amazon as MEK.

Just carrying on from your post - I have only 2 points with 'remote' hand control, both via bowden tubes - one a model aircraft ptfe 'wire'/plastic tube Point-lever-1.jpg and the second a bike brake cable housing, with stainless steel wire replacing the brake cable. point-lever-2.jpg Both are connec...
