Just thinking ... From filling up the boiler with hot water - it normaly takes 1 minute to move the engine to the track and then ignite the gas-burner. During this time I think some of the energy in the hot water will transfer to the boiler and pipes. My Billy has (as far as I know) no sight glasses...

I always use pre heated water in my RH Billy to shorten the time steaming up the engine.

I good advice is to remove 20 ml water (instead of 30 ml) from the boiler when using pre heated water. This to ensure that the boiler do not runs out of water before gas runs out.

The snow isn't a problem. It only gives your engine a nice run on your gardenrailway. :D

By the way, the Billy with a bunker and headlights looks rather - well, erm - Scandanavian to me!  It reminds me of some of the Swedish forestry locos.  I am not familiar enough with Norwegian NG engines other than the Trygve class - and their relatives ;) Yes - that's right. When I startet with LI...

The Pine Hill Railway (PHRy) - a Norwegian Garden Railway

Hello and welcome to The Pine Hill Garden Railway. Last year I was starting to build my garden railway, and make different kind of rolling stock. I live in Norway, in the county of Østfold. It's south of Oslo and the climate is much like the British Isles. Here in this topic I would like to share p...

My personal Garden Railway highlight in 2011 was just starting up. :) The learning curve has been steep, but has also been very fascinating. In 2011 it has been a lot of hard work with tons of stones, cement and gravel, but it then has given me a very nice layout. My new Billy has become a nice upgr...

I will try to make lining to my Billy before next summer.

The waterslide transfers are interesting, but so are the the soon coming lining masks from Roundhouse.

Time will show. :)

Thanks to You all for good advices and to Tony for the Lady Anne coalbunker. Here is the result of the reconstruction or actually a new rear-end-wall to my Billy. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/118048354/Billy-rear-bunker%20450.jpg I have had to adjust the sides of the coalbunker and make new holes for the...

Here is a picture of the headlamp and the brasspipe attached to the smokebox.

The wires then goes by a pipe attached to the inside of the frame back to a on-off-on-switch and a 9 volts battery placed next to the R/C-receiver.

Hello It is Christmas Eve, and my Billy was just finished for the holidays. Here it comes out of the tunnel on my Pinehill Garden Railway. The headlamp gives a sign of a train coming through the tunnel. I have used 16 volts lamps and a 9 volts battery witch gives a very nice glow. The headlamps are...

Thank you all for good advices. I was afraid that the heat, moisture and oildamp inside the smokebox would harm the soldering. :? Therefore I will try to make a nonsolder connection - a brass wire with a loop on the inside of the smokebox and then solder the wire to the pipe on the outside. The pipe...

I have a 16 volt lamp (no LEDs), and the illumination is rather nice using a 9 volts battery. And I am using the brass pipe as one of the conduktors. I think of soldering a thinn brass strip to the pipe, but would also like not to use a "large" BA-bolt. I would prefer a 1 mm brass wire sol...

Wiring for a large headlamp to my Billy

I have bought two large headlamps for my Billy, and I want to controll the light with a switch conneted to a 9volt battery put inside the frame. There are enough place inside the frame together with the r/c receiver. I think the wiring should fit inside a small brasstube and then to be attached to t...

Hi Rob I have seen the works of art from Tony and Rhos Helyg Locomotive works. Those are very nice. :) But I live in Norway and I think it is a too long way to bring my Billy across the North-See for a lining-job in the UK. I will try to do the lining-job myselves. Tamiya maskingtape and a lot of pa...

Hi Rob I like your Billy. It is very nice. I can't wait to see more of it. :) I have just bought my Billy this autumn, and it is now on my workbench for adding some details. I like the lining on your Billy. How did you do the lining? Paint or decals? Roundhouse will according to their website come u...
