Sandstone and Termite web pages
I have always had a large internet site for my trains, consisting of over 50 pages. You have always seen the link at the bottom of my ‘signature’ here. I had not had time to keep the pages up to date over the last few years, but a month ago I tried to open them and they didn't work. After much was...

Re: A tiny G gauge indoor layout
Scenery progresses slowly on the line, with a 'lake' and waterfall and river gorge complete. Some track ballasting done too. Here's a video of a 'pretend' operating session showing just the scenicked bit. https://youtu.be/b3jd8w6tz28 and the gorge DSCN4717.JPG (not happy with the waterfall yet) and ...

Nice to see the Aussie outline buildings. Love the awning over the window. Very Queensland.

Re: A tiny G gauge indoor layout
Very timely Aaron. I am just about to try and make a tree! Yours look great.
I am still struggling to 'remember' how big G stuff is when it's indoors. Even a small tree will have to be 9" high

I like the way you have laid everything out in a table format, with links videos etc.

I think it looks GREAT. Maybe a few plastic 'bushes' or some reeds?

Re: A tiny G gauge indoor layout
It's always a problem trying to use a real photo in this way, because whatever you do, you can never look in exactly the same way that the camera was pointing, and as soon as you move the perspective goes out the window. I've always ended up with doing a kind of impressionist rendition, that the ey...

Re: A tiny G gauge indoor layout
Lovely work on the scenery Greg. Where did you get the quarry backdrop from? Thanks for the ideas of using Pearlite. The quarry backscene came from the internet. Stretched, mirrored, cut and pasted etc. Just a test at the moment. I have trouble getting the angles and ground level correct. This one ...

Re: A tiny G gauge indoor layout
Thanks for the update Greg, I'm glad you're making progress - which looks pretty rapid to me! I'm really enjoying this project, which is giving me ideas for the future. Actually, as I type this in my office at work I'm looking around and wondering what I could get away with... All 3 of my mates who...

Some SLOW progress on the Claymine Branch. A steel girder bridge has crossed the future river. Made from styrene sheet. Piers are polystyrene covered in plaster. girder bridge (1).jpg The plan is for a lake and waterfall like this. Work is progressing using pine bark as the rocks for the waterfall g...

Re: A tiny G gauge indoor layout
Graeme - I have seen videos using the neg ion generator potted component. But all my searches for 'negative ion generators' just come up with fully constructed units. The neg ion generator in the Boulder Creek video, as being sold by Oatley Electronics - no such thing appears when I search the Oatl...

Re: A tiny G gauge indoor layout
Having completed track laying, it's time to actually build some scenery. Maybe this is not the forum for this as it is no longer a garden railway, but I'll continue the progress update. I needed a 10" high vertical wall at one location, so following Rik's blog of how he built his viaduct from i...

Re: TVT - The Skylark That Couldn't
It's nice to see someone else with a passion (or is it a fetish) for measuring tractive effort etc. I measure all my locos after I finish building, for mass on drivers and drawbar pull. (and the electrical chracteristics as well). I'm interested that your adhesion comes in at 22% (0.4kg/1.8kg) - It'...

Re: A tiny G gauge indoor layout
In Oz, my money would be on the clay being carried between pit and works in either V-skips, or US pattern wooden side tippers. Kilns need lots of fuel, so your railway will also need to carry in firewood and/or coal. Anyway, there have been a couple of articles with photos covering Newbold operatio...

The railway in that video is fascinating. The trestle looks very impressive for such a niche railway The Driving Creek Railway is a real tourist attraction now. We visited about 20 years ago and the railway then didn't go to the top of the hill as shown in this video. https://drivingcreek.nz/activi...

Re: A tiny G gauge indoor layout
Thanks everyone for their ideas and suggestions for clay wagons. GTB's references will keep me busy for a while. One of the good things about running my own railway and not a prototype, is that I can decide what I will do from all those options. The pic that Rik gave showed open waggons and I can't ...

Re: A very Big Tunnel
An avalanche shelter would be ideal, but I'm not sure there's much call for it in your part of the world. Rik I was going to suggest the same. There are avalanche shelters on the Undanderra-Moss Vale line and I am going to put a MUCH shorter one on my Claymine Branch. Maybe a shelter, then a shorte...

Re: A tiny G gauge indoor layout
At 3:25 it looks as if the wagon corners are touching in the curve. I use just chain and hook couplings, so I have to have very long chains! In one of the videos you will hear me commenting on Keith's train with Kadee's and how they actually worked when I didn't think they would. (It's because his ...
