Re: Track advice
As everyone has said, it really is the bigger the better, things just go around the curves so much easier and more naturally and as already said, it really does help protect it for any future stock that may come along, it might not be until years down the road you are glad you went bigger or wish yo...

Hi Rod
Loving the garage and car lot, looks amazing with the lights on too. Fantastic work, but I am curious how you did all that lettering so well??

Re: DMLR - Yesterday
Thanks for the update, things are looking good - I love those carriages! Scrabbling around on my hands and needs with various bits of shrubbery poking at me as I try to progress the landscaping on my ground level line can sometimes make me wish I'd gone down a similar route to you - your layout loo...

Re: DMLR - Yesterday
Great video and pictures steves. I like your layout and that decking boards have been used to build the baseboards. Thanks Kevin. Glad you like it. To be fair it was done as a cost efficient option and I count myself very lucky to have bought some nice loco's while I was working. I am a full time c...

Re: ACCUCRAFT L&B OPEN WAGON IN L&BR GREY
Most of my rolling stock is Accucraft and it is plenty heavy enough to stay on the track and couples very well indeed. They do come across as big though, especially when pulled by some of my smaller loco's, but I can cope with that as I love the Accucraft rolling stock. When I was too busy working t...

Great video Steve. The photos look good too. :thumbright: Can you please tell me what you used for the boards. Are they marine ply or something else.? And how did you cover them? Hi Rod They are simply patio decking boards painted with external garden paint. In the planted areas they have a thin la...

Absolutely fantastic Rik. I watched that and was impressed from start to finish, I just love the way you run your railway, the scale speeds and the fact that they actually do something, just amazing to watch

Re: Quarterly Garden Railway Gallery - June 2019 Entries REMINDER
Some seriously nice photo's so far. Will someone be putting them all in one post at some point so we can see them all together either when or before voting opens? I must confess there are a few that I want to vote for, can't decide, decisions decision???     :scra...

Re: Another Wild Rose Project
Hi Steve, Very quickly the "stem" is the bit in the middle that screws down to close the valve off, normally with the cone on the end. Hope that helps but must go as I am removing patterns from rubber moulds. Nope, still lost me I am afraid :( To me the valve is the slide valve in the ste...

Re: Another Wild Rose Project
Pipe fitting-2.jpg I've got a vague idea I made a few of this type before I worked out that a 60deg conical seat could be easily made with a centre drill and I then quickly standardised on coned pipe fittings for all steam and gas pipework. The one in the photo is 3/16" ME for 1/16" tubin...

Re: Another Wild Rose Project
One other comment I would make is on the design of the valves. I would look at making the stem a little safer than suggested. The stem as designed would not come out but I like a bit of belt and braces. Thanks Ian, I will have a look at what I think I will be able to make to work in there. I need t...

Re: Another Wild Rose Project
Ian If you have a look at the 16mm association website they have a section for downloads, then locomotives. Under that section is the wild rose drawings in PDF format. I think page 18, the steam fittings is the section I am struggling to work out how to deal that connection from the boiler to the s...

Re: Another Wild Rose Project
I have started on the part on the last picture (shown in red), but just can't see how that is going to seal properly on the union suggested?? Any thoughts anyone? Looks like it might be designed to seal with an o-ring, like the steam inlet tee on Roundhouse cylinders. (A fitting I dislike intensely...

Re: Another Wild Rose Project
I think it's important to keep using the saws and files, otherwise the skills will drop off. I made a gas valve for an engine, lovely fine thread and fine taper, it was just like making a regulator. It's fitted to the 220g gas cylinder adaptor, I bought the hand wheel though :D I agree Dave... :thu...
