Re: Electric Chassis

I got one in Lidl about 6 months ago for, I think, £60. They have them as their weekly special buys from time to time. I've been keeping half an eye out for some time since I saw good reviews of them. I have to say I haven't used it yet, so can't really comment on value for money. Thanks for that P...

Re: Enlargement - Part the Second.

Regarding the coal, one of our members informed me that as the coal had been acquired last year it had gone off..... I checked the expression on his face and yes he was being serious. No wonder he only plays with battery engines. I couldn't have said that and kept a straight face. Just reading it m...

Re: Electric Chassis

That's set me thinking about building my own battery powered loco. Lack of equipment and skill are my biggest obstacles. Would a pillar drill cost more than buying a kit?

Re: Chain shunting

Wonderful stuff, loved both videos. Is the 'real life' one shot at Bristol docks? Yes, Bristol. From 0:43 they are hauling the wagons back using the same powered capstan, suggesting the rope must pass around another unpowered capstan at the far end. My thinking is that a similar arrangement might h...

Re: Enlargement - Part the Second.

The new beastie had its first run today. Not as good as I hoped, the blower is blocked and we struggled to raise steam. This was not helped by some rather iffy coal. It was more than happy to pull me around with 15psi, albeit slowly. This suggest that all is okay and once the blower is sorted and s...

Re: Chain shunting

This setup might add operational interest to a line in the garden (ignore crap music): I like that idea. I might keep it for my "yet to be built" line. I did see a line with a chain worked incline with a winding house at the top. Sadly the owner remodelled the line and never completed it....

Unfortunately I can't afford 72 though as 30 of them are already going to set me back $500 AUD. Perhaps a quantity discount might apply? 72! I'll settle for double figures. 6 so far so over half way. I see they are going for around UK£15 now. My first one cost me less than UK£10. They're great mode...

Of course Ian :thumbright: Meet the Gin & Tonic train - the holders of the can and glass and gin miniature lifts out so it can carry beer cans and bottles Just brilliant. I love it. My own railway is at the planning stage (has been for years). It hasn't got a name yet, but does have some stock ...

But it’s the volunteers that are keeping the preservation railways going, that are keeping the youngsters interested in model railways. :thumbright: My own Grandkids were going to see steam trains before I was getting involved with model rail, so every time Anne and I go to a heritage railway we bu...

It's a real working railway. I like it.

Trains and gardening. What a great way to relax. Have you got a refreshment train too?

Great pictures of the locomotive and rolling stock.

I have no idea if it's authentic or not, but it looks good to me.

Long live Thomas or any layout that encourages the younger generation to get involved and build something. With more expensive housing and limited possibilities for a good pension I do fear for the future of the hobby and for the young in general. :thumbright: I agree. Thomas probably accounts for ...

I have to explain most jokes to my eldest daughter. She just says "I don't get it". I don't tell her any now. They're not as funny when you have to explain them.

It would appear that to protect polystyrene chips in transit they pack them with steam engines. This was not expected until Friday, however Postman Pat's big brother turned up with this at lunchtime, thankfully I was in and the current wife wasn't. Current wife?? Do you tend to change them often? I...
