Re: Bridges of the Sandstone & Termite

That big trestle is soooo impressive Greg. I can understand why you didn't paint it but I am surprised that you didn't use creosote or similar preservative on it? I think I did 'dip' the ends in creosote - probably should have soaked them more. Can't use creosote now. It's amazing that your wooden ...

Re: Bridges of the Sandstone & Termite

Time for Episode 2 Melaleuca station is on a raised baseboard 40cm high at one end and 120cm at the other. To get to it needed bridges at both ends. So after my success with tomato stakes trestles, I used a small one here. 1-orig Mela trestle sept97.jpg 2-image18.jpg The tomato stakes were driven i...

Re: Bridges of the Sandstone & Termite

Greg, I love the bridges, especially the Trestles…You are a brilliant builder… The bridge by the tree would look great upside down. Have you ever thought of running a stream to something down those rocks Greg. It’s seem’s to be crying out for some water running over them. Long, long ago, before a g...

Bridges of the Sandstone & Termite

My GR needs lots of bridges – which is lucky because I like designing and building them. So I thought I’d show a few of my creations. Please excuse the photo quality - the old pics are scanned - no digital cameras then. Episode 1. When I started building the SaTR, the first problem was to negotiate ...

Re: Meanderings in Dorset and Devon

I've read a couple of the blogs so far. Your descriptions and pictures are really well done - it's just like I was there with you (wish, wish). I'll tackle the rest over the weekend. As usual I am jealous of all the restored railways (and other industrial stuff) you have in UK. They seem to be aroun...

Re: Bottle Creek Tramway

That’s a brilliant line and some very nice loco’s and rolling stock Greg. How did he manage to get so much in a small space like he did, or is the camera lying….. I don’t mind seeing houses and fences, it’s all part and parcel for of a garden railway for me. Here's a plan of the line: The top pic i...

Re: Sandstone & Termite

Wish I had the money to go down under for your Spring our Autumn/Winter…but alas it can’t be…. :( :( :( Looks a very interesting line indeed and some nice Locos and Rolling stock too. You'd regret being in Sydney at present - it has rained all week since we had that last run. Oh well we needed the ...

Bottle Creek Tramway

I am being presumptuous and starting a thread for my mate's railway. Keith doesn't 'do' computers or take photos etc. I tend to run more on his Bottle Creek Tramway than my Sandstone & Termite these days, as his very considerate wife 'minds' my wife while Keith and I run trains. Keith does more ...

Re: New transmitters for old

Very professional results.
Do you have any 'notes' on the back to remind you what F1 etc means, or is your memory good enough? (I'm assuming that maybe F1, F2 etc do different things on different locos?)

Re: Sandstone & Termite

Thanks Tom and Rik for your comments. At the risk of cross-contamination of topics, I might just mention the method of 'eliminating' ugly backgrounds that has been broached on other forums. The view of the loco climbing the grade at the start of the video took a lot of fiddling to eliminate the horr...

Thanks Philip. It's my favourite scene too - something I could never get without the drone. I have tried on a tall ladder but I can't move it along with the train!

DRONE FLIGHT 2 Here's the 2nd video using footage taken from the drone. This time I've excluded all views of sheds and people where possible and blanked them out (blue-screened) where not. It's supposed to be a 'documentary' on how a helicopter was used to make a movie to attract tourists to the Sa...

Very nicely done.
Always best to get the basics working first then to fine tune the speed or whatever.

Re: Gradients in 16mm?

Going uphill is not the problem. Remember, unlike full-size our little trains don'the (usually) have brakes. Here's my chance to learn something about live steam. I would have thought that if you shut off steam to the cylinders, then that would be a sort of brake. And if not, then couldn't you chan...

Re: Gradients in 16mm?

I don't run live steam, but my battery powered trains climb my 1:25 OK. Here's a couple of video links showing visiting live steamers climbing the 1:25. The first one is Terry's (Mr slo-mo himself). Terry likes running VERY slowly. https://youtu.be/M4C0yLB3R-M?t=181 and this one is a less modified B...

Re: Beeston Market Station forecourt/backscenes

This is a great topic and bringing out useful ideas. It shows that different people have different requirements and solutions and also different ways of 'having fun' with garden trains. I seem to have progressed beyond enjoying just running trains, to enjoying being able to photograph or video them ...
