Re: A big American diesel for the SaTR

They've really got something about them, those classic American diesels... That's a very impressive loco, and looks very at home on your line. I look forward to the video to experience the sound effects too... Andrew. Thanks Andrew. Jut to complete the description, here's a pic of my 'neat' wiring ...

A big American diesel for the SaTR

Quite a few years back I bought a USA Trains F3 diesel from a friend’s Estate. This is a short description of how I converted it for use on the Sandstone and Termite. Externally there is virtually no change. I added the lettering along the sides by printing onto glossy photo paper and gluing on. I n...

Re: Lift up bridge questions

You have seen my bridges. The 'trick' is to have the hinge pivot ABOVE the top of the rails. These pics are of my alum bar rail, but I did have a bridge with normal rails at Ti-tree, (now demolished and no pics.) My 'hinge' is just a few bits of steel with 1/4" bolts - rough and ready but been ...

Re: Sandstone and Termite Mail train

Gregh, I enjoyed that, some nice shots and editing, very impressed with the trestle bridge, like to see more of that. I built the trestle back in 1995 and have no good pics. BUt I had to do major repairs in 2013 and you can see these..... https://www.gscalecentral.net/threads/repairing-my-18-year-o...

Fantastic work. It's so unusual to see buildings NOT on level ground and yours is a welcome change and looks so realistic.

Sandstone and Termite Mail train

The only long distance passenger train on the Sandstone and Termite is the overnight Mail train from Termite to Sandstone (and in the opposite direction). This video follows the train on it's journey, which is part at night and part in early daylight. Apologies for the low quality of the old night v...

Re: Making track what to use for rails

You might like to look at my webpage. I started using alum bar 10x3mm 20 years ago. It looks like this statn2.jpg Here's my webpage..... http://www.members.optusnet.com.au/satr/track.htm I don't really recommend using alum bar in slotted sleepers outdoors, - read the detailed reasons on the webpage....

I don't know if you ever watched Wil E Coyote, who had a business card that I always wanted.
I think you deserve it...

A very enjoyable watch. You have a great garden. No wonder you had to double head with coaches weighing 3kg.
Your camera angles provide such realistic views.

What a great looking railway. Even though the stone buildings are a bit 'foreign' to my antipodean eyes, I'd love to visit that pub and maybe have some scrumpy.

Lovely locos and stock too. The chunky, functional little diesels reminded me of my first ever model loco, the Triang dock shunter:
I quite fancy making a 16mm-ish version one day...
Andrew.
Maybe we need a new Topic - "Show us your first model train" ?

Thanks Rik. All the similar things I've ever seen in Oz were articulated that way. I'm glad it gets around all your curves.

That sure is a major construction job. You make it look easy.
Is the thing articulated or pivoted on the 'bogies' or what?

Re: All Stations on the Sandstone & Termite

Nice little video Greg, thanks. I'm interested in your 'leaf screens', don't think I've seen a reference to them before? What they do is pretty obvious but how they do it is another question? On the raised baseboard sections, I use 'shade cloth' to cover the tracks. I presume you have such stuff in...

Re: CDR Railcar No. 10

It's amazing how you fit everything in. It's nice looking model - quite unusual with the coupled wheels (to me anyway). I can see the slight 'binding' as it moves. If you can't open out the conrod holes maybe the pins can be made a bit smaller? The idle sound is beautiful. (but a little less good wh...

All Stations on the Sandstone & Termite

For the first time in many weeks I got motivated enough to run a couple of small trains.
I didn't even open all of Melaleuca's leaf screens - just cleared enough track of leaves to run from Termite to Melaleuca and back.

Looks good.
Instead of the galv wire, I used fishing line - seems less visible and doesn't have the kinks.

The grass under the trestle looks good too.

Re: Old videos of the Sandstone & Termite

This week's video is from 2014. In a few scenes it shows some live steam action, my biggest diesel and some experimenting with a small keyfob 'spy' camera to give a cab view from my big Garratt loco.
