Re: A tiny G gauge indoor layout

Well it is a tiny layout, so this is a tiny project. Following representations from passengers, a small platform has been built adjacent to the lake so that passengers may detrain to view the gorge and waterfalls. The platform is a whole 3” long (=6’), made from ‘sleepers’ and the safety fence is fl...

Re: The Claymine Branch - tiny indoor G gauge

That's a good suggestion. But.... 1. I need about 100g weight on the 'spring' to apply enough brake force (five 50c pieces). It's the reason I went for the cam idea. 2. the ball doesn't roll off the brakes going uphill unless the wagon is turned around! I don't have any ball bearings and the only cy...

Re: The Claymine Branch - tiny indoor G gauge

Having been given the Round tuit by Graeme, I had no excuse but to get experimenting. The problem to be solved is that on my tiny indoor layout there are grades as steep as 1:12 or so. I have to keep my wagons as light and free-running as possible to get up the hill, but when descending, they tend t...

Congratulations for getting it to work. Looks great.
I will put it on my "projects" list
Do you get water droplets condensing on the loco and wagons?

What a beautiful model.
I started to build a Harman years ago but it's still pieces on a shelf somewhere.
I enjoy your 'testing' and calculations part of the build too.

Really great video showing your indoor line in action, Greg. Just wondering if you need a brake van for the descents ......  Rik Yes, but I'm waiting for the round toit to be delivered. There you go Greg I have a spare one I can pass on to you. a_round_tuit.jpg Well thanks EX-friend. N...

Re: The Claymine Branch - tiny indoor G gauge

It was a bit warmish for trains outside, so Keith and I ran on the indoor line. Keith's small yellow devil loco is finally finished and ran well and really looked the part on the small line. It and my baby Heisler handled most of the loads.

The PLR must be the busiest light railway in Britain. I need to buy shares - they must be skyrocketing.

Good one again Rik.

Re: Question on Porter and Bell manufacture locos.

No idea about that one, it's not an error message I've ever seen online. I used the site heavily and downloaded photos when I was researching prototype info for the Climax loco rebuild, but that didn't appear to worry the site. Most of the vagaries of the internet pass me by at height with a loud '...

Re: Question on Porter and Bell manufacture locos.

Thanks Graeme for the quick response.
looks like I can indulge my idea of outside frames with connecting rods and no visible cylinders.

BTW I cannot access the gearedsteam website as it gives me a great big red warning that I have (somehow) infringed their copyright.

Question on Porter and Bell manufacture locos.

I am trying to find a small 0-4-0 STEAM loco to model with a recently purchased loco block – from a Bachmann centre cab diesel. bachmann centrecab motor block (1a).JPG It will not be a true model – I am just after ‘ideas’. It will have to be an outside frame type and I would prefer it to have inside...

Re: The Claymine Branch - tiny indoor G gauge

Thats really great Greg. The selective close up shots completely disguise the actual size of the layout and the mind assumes it to be much larger than it really is. Thanks Rik and Philip. I was really just trying out different camera angles - not easy to hide the rest of the shed! But I found that ...

They don't come simpler than that Gregh and they look just fine. I'm amazed how much you manage to fit in to such a limited space and still make it look right. Thanks Peter - the camera does lie sometimes. They look spot on! Where are the sacks from? Rik I could say "from Pauline's Pottery&quo...

Small, low-sided, 4-wheel wagons for indoor line.

When planning the indoor line, I wanted to use existing wagons and locos from the garden line. They do work ok but look a bit too large, so I have built 3 smaller wagons for the transportation of the clay. These are just low sided flat wagons. flat wagons compare.JPG The frame is 8mm pine, the floor...
