Looking forward to seeing how this progresses, my first (only thus far) live steamer was a roundhouse kit build and I thoroughly enjoyed the process!

Been lacking time recently so things have slowed down, managed to knock up a blower from tenmille etches and some bits of 1/4” steel in preparation for its first steaming though. Wired to a pwm speed controller for a bit of adjustability.

Lovely collection you’ve got there, the radial especially!

It’s building it that’s forced me to learn the skills in all honesty, can’t recommend a project like this enough for expanding your comfort zone

Slowed down on this a bit through a combination of working a lot and being distracted by some 16mm bits and pieces. Firebox is now finished in brass though

It’s black enamel from this company https://www.paragonpaints.co.uk/ with a couple of coats of halfords clear enamel laquer over the top to seal the decals

Tender is painted and together, just need to check it’s watertight once the sealant goes off

If I can afford one I’ll be interested! Watched a 33 dragging mayflower and it’s train through Acton just the other day and it did sound nice.

That really looks the part, particularly like the long goods train! Need to get myself down to guildford soon!

The wee one has decided her place on the railway is to load trains with gravel, whether I like it or not...

Hi George, I’m not a member but plan to become one, so I’d be interested in the answer to this as well! Assume popping down on an open day would be a good start but don’t know how easy that is with current restrictions as I think they’re only selling limited tickets online.

This is very interesting! I’ve been thinking a g1 battery loco could be next on the cards once the project is finished, a 20 would be very nice...

After a copy of the above book as inspiration for future projects but it seems to be about of stock everywhere. If anyone knows of a source or has a copy they’re willing to part with please let me know...

I’d second the previous reply about looking at a kit loco, cheaper, can be done in stages to spread the cost, and you’ll learn a lot about how it works in the process so repairs or modifications in the future will be much easier. Also the roundhouse range are really quite straightforward to build!
