Re: Gauge 1 ‘project’

Made a start on the cylinder last night, first step was to face off a chunk of brass in the 4 jaw down to the correct dimensions 4256BA19-276A-4068-94EA-B0E8C828A342.jpeg Then the bore center was center popped and set up in the 4 jaw in the same way as the eccentric 164CA40C-E6C8-458E-828B-2D0F7B8E0...

Re: Gauge 1 ‘project’

Managed to borrow a propane torch to get the crank web silver soldered, then cut out and cleaned up the center bit of axle, drive axle is now complete and back in the frames.

Re: Gauge 1 ‘project’

Garethh, GMES has now reopened after the last lockdown and our next open day is the 13th. I'm planning to be running on the Gauge one (I'm the one will all the small electric mice) if you wanted to come say hello! We're a lovely bunch and always looking for more members! Jon Thanks Jon, I’m plannin...

Re: Gauge 1 ‘project’

Thanks for the info Dazza, still undecided whether I’ll bother or not! Made a bit of progress, some bits for the valve gear, namely rocker, slip eccentric, crank and axle pump eccentric. Re: Gauge 1 ‘project’

Hi, Guildford Model Engineering are a dangerous bunch aren't they! They're the reason I got into Gauge 1. Always good to see someone else doing it on here. I look forward to seeing how your Project turns out! Jon They certainly are, I think I’ll be joining up once all this restriction stuff starts ...

Re: First time scratchbuild project - Bagnall steam loco

Looks great, would love to see a video of it running! I was impressed with the loco remote system as well, but agree a dedicated handset is preferable

Interesting Graeme, maybe I’ll do a spare cylinder at the same time if I manage to get the first one right!

Re: Llewellyn Loco Works #1

Some lovely work there! Soft soldering a bit different to brazing steel with brass isn’t it! I still silver braze some brass bits with silver. I silver braze my frame tubes with 56% Harris silver. Brass is only used now on the cutout piece in my chainstay bridges, but I do brass brass frames for ye...

Re: Gauge 1 ‘project’

Updates may be a little slow as Christmas will definitely impact funding for tooling and materials... it’s crossed my mind that the basic cylinder design could be used in a 16mm loco, although can’t think of any inside cylinder prototypes

Re: Gauge 1 ‘project’

That does look like an impressive start. Looking forward to seeing how it develops. If I remember rightly, Dazza has drilled oiling points into the bearings on his live steam loco build which is described on this thread. There's quite a few posts to wade through but I think you'll find it referred ...

Gauge 1 ‘project’

Not sure how much interest in gauge 1 there is on here but thought I’d stick this up anyway, mostly because I’ll probably need to ask for advice at some point! A while back I bought the g1mra ‘project’ book, out of curiosity really as I thought the info in there might be helpful for other things I h...

Bachman lyn project

This was running nicely on battery rc before it took a TIL I’m leaving from a shelf which has resulted in a crack and damage to the motor block so is very much spares or repairs at the moment, thought I’d put it up here in case anyone’s interested before it goes on eBay. 097291C6-E04F-4D4D-ACB4-043B...

Re: Box of oily bits

Thanks Aaron, I particularly hate the paint stripping bit! Bit more progress today, rolling chassis is back together and couldn’t resist a quick test fit of the body and smoke box to get and idea of what it’ll look like when I’m finished. 69526AF7-4397-4FF5-91AF-13DA2D0EDC80.jpeg 8D928A30-9521-4632-...

Re: IP Engineering 0-6-0 chassis build

Many thanks for the info, very helpful! I’ve done two build so far with the mfa 30:1 gearbox motor thing and it seems to the job quite nicely, although both mine are running bevel gear final drive so it’s nice to see another way of doing it, I do like the sound of a 90:1 final ratio!

Re: IP Engineering 0-6-0 chassis build

I’m intrigued by the slaters worm wheel, what reduction is it? I’m not entirely happy with the Deleon chain drive on one of my locos so have been looking at other options, how have you found this setup?

Re: Box of oily bits

Finally got round to stripping a repainting the frames, they got taken back to bare metal, etch primed, a few coats of grey primer followed by matt black enamel. Decided to chemical blacken rather than paint the bolts and stretcher that will be visible as I figure paint will only interfere with the ...

Can anyone tell me if brandbright chopper couplings eg rsa70 are compatible with accucraft choppers?
