This is very much at the experimental stage, it uses an infra red range finder as the RADAR, this sends an analog signal to the micro controller and depending on the distance to the detected object it alters the duty cycle of the PWM motor controller accordingly. The micro controller is an Arduino ...

I use Skype everyday for communicating with the other members of my development team and with our contractors in India and Nebraska. I actually much prefer it to Goto meeting (our other conference call solution) but would also much prefer to just be using good old IRC.

Thanks,
I'll take a look at roundhouse - but seeing that thread on Salem Steam's trailing truck I may just try and bodge together something similar.

Thanks Colin and Chris!

Pony Truck

I'm looking for a 32 mm gauge single axle trailing truck. So far all I've been able to find are Lionel tinplate. Does anyone sell a 32mm gauge pony truck suitable for use in a mamod mod?

That DOES look nice. I'm sure it's an excellent magazine. I wouldn't benefit much from being a member of that group though.  :( I'm in the same boat. I'd like to be a member - but that's a lot of money for basically just a quarterly magazine. If there was a (cheaper) web-only subscription it would ...

The first steam powered vehicle

We might think it was Trevithick's 1804 steam engine but we need to go back a bit earlier. This article (from Jalopnik) talks about Ferdinand Verbiest's 1672 model steam car, which he built while working as the court astronomer for the Chinese Emperor.
