Re: Which FDM printer?
Philp, just a word of caution, if your 3D printer is anything like a 2D printer, when you power the machine down, it goes though a shut down sequence, usually very short, if you switch the power off the machine does not go through the sequence, and eventually it "could" mess up the printer...

Re: Mon PC est mort
I built my own computer, and its a bit like triggers broom, the case mobo and CPU circa 2010, the PSU circa 2013, and the two SSD HD circa 2018, started on Win 7 now on Win 10, but not suitable for upgrade to Win 11, so a new "box of tricks" soon. When I finally retire from work, I may eve...

Re: Painting foamboard structures, Brunel models kit.
If you do use acrylics I strongly advise you NOT to coat with lacquer of any description as with temperature and humidity changes your model will move and allow water to penetrate, but not escape, thus causing staining and peeling. The acrylics form a skin which remains flexible and can withstand s...

I would treat the structure like any other plasticard model, the material is very similar

Re: Apple Tree Tram Mounting Brackets 45mm Gauge
Moderators I hope this not fall outside the scope of permitted posting, just trying to assist anybody who has had similar issues to myself in tram building. I can't see any problem at all, Jimmy. Potentially very useful. Re the actual system, my only comment would be that it would be preferable to ...

Apple Tree Tram Mounting Brackets 45mm Gauge
I have put this in "Review", though in reality it is to show what has just become available. Tim Gleed-Owen of Apple Tree looked at the issue I have of being able to mount his motor/gearbox without outside hubs and this is what he has produced: Apple Tree Bracket-4.jpg Apple Tree Bracket-3...

Re: O Gauge track for 16mm?
Of course, the space I have available is just under 4ft at one end, around 4 1/2ft at the other, by around 7ft long. Like a very slight L shape Is it me or does that mean you could easily fit R1 Peco on that size? Peco R1 set track is 371mm radius, less than 30 inches, just. Maybe I am just missing...

Re: Sandstone and Termite
I'd always assumed the Australian climate was fairly dry until you pointed out to me that Sydney gets more rain per year than London  Rik We just get it in one big serve not spread all over the year. Towns in the tropics used to measure their rain in feet. I lived in one where the gutters do...

Re: Why do we do it?
Rik, I think for me it is the size, and available space. I have gone through many stages of railway modelling, as I am sure most of us have. Starting in 00 for my new born son 40+ years ago (or was it the tin plate Hornby 60+ year ago), I digress, I moved to N gauge to get more in a limited space, b...

Re: So, what have you been up to with your railway?
Hello out there... Posting from Eastern Ontario, Canada; we are deep into the Winter season, with low temperatures, sometime dipping into the -20C range. So, there is nothing much happening out-of-doors, needless to say !! We are however looking optimistically towards the 2022 Spring reopening of t...

Sata 1-2-3- refers only to the data transferspeed. Pinlayout and cables are the same and the drives are downwards compatible so no problems here!

Re: Hard drive enclosure
One thing to note is that there are 2 types of caddy and 2 types of hard drive. If it's a more recent machine then it's likely to SATA, older ones are likely to be IDE. If it's a full length connector full of a dual bank of pins or holes that's IDE, SATA is not quite full width and has a more uniqu...

As a bit of a diversion I've recently been working on an Occre Soller Tram car kit. I've got a bit of a weak spot for trams like this... Body and interior are complete and once the roof is done, I shall work on how best to motorise it. Probably going to be spring until, its finished as I will probab...

Re: So, what have you been up to with your railway?
After a nearly 10 years hibernation I fired my "Ruby" live steamer. There is more to running it than just switching on the battery and running it. Just like the real thing it requires oiling, firing, water filling and watching to make sure it does not run out of water before the gas runs ...

I find applying the paint (over a good colour base coat) with a sponge gives a good effect, a couple of colours that a similar, and then pick out a couple of slates in these colours.

IOM 4 wheel coach - Wheels
Looking for advice, I recently bought (second hand) an Accucraft (BMS) IOM 4 Wheel coach, fitted with 32 mm gauge wheels but 45 mm gauge wheels supplied. Long story short and the 45 mm wheels were not available (suitable recompense, so no issue with seller). Checking on the Accucraft site 32 mm diam...

Re: Contractors Loco Project
Phil, looking at the photo and your drawing, it would seem inside the cab may be missing something. Through the doorway on the floor you can see a person's foot, and the depth of the floor seems to be just wider, suggesting there is a container along the far wall, which the two men are leaning on, c...
