Re: Comparing Geared motors
Thanks, Graeme I did wonder if I'd got a rogue motor - but I actually bought two at the same time and both behave in exactly the same way as in the video. I bought them from a reputable supplier (PiHut), so I don't think I've been sent cheap clones. The fact that the cheap AliExpress version perform...

Re: Comparing Geared motors
Thanks Trevor. I'm still in the process of tinkering with the design of the motor block, but it's reassuring to hear the motor works well in practice.

I like the way you've made room for the stem of the shrub.

Re: Comparing Geared motors
Thanks Phil The pulsed nature of the speed change is accurately portrayed in the video but might have something to do with the LGB transformer/controller I'm using. Must admit though, I've not noticed the step change in speed with LGB motor blocks previously, but I'll do a bit more experimentation. ...

Clever idea to use the posh cocktail sticks as legs. I've been wondering if there is a use for them after recently buying a pack

Comparing Geared motors
I've decided to bite the bullet and produce my own motor blocks / powered chassis - after struggling to find commercially available units of the right dimensions. However, when testing my first chassis with a (c£20GBP) Polulo geared motor, I was disappointed to find that it doesn't seem to want to r...

That does look good! The curved members over the top look spot-on!

Re: A Ruston-ish ....
Rik, If you want pictures of Berwyn, or 'the pigs' (the various orange painted loco's).. These are at the WHHR, and I can get/take chapter and verse, for you. Berwyn is now in the museum, for this season. Thanks Phil They're a bit too modern for me - I like the earlier diesels. Rik PS - I like the ...

Re: A Ruston-ish ....
It would expand your modelling horizons considerably.......... ;) Although at the rate you are going at present, you will have the diesel equivalent of Boulton's Siding soon. ** Graeme ** look up 'The Chronicles of Boulton's Siding' by Alfred Rosling Bennett. Looks fascinating. I found a copy in Go...

Re: A Ruston-ish ....
Dammit! I've just found this wonderful source of Ruston NG loco photos .... which includes, among many others, a three-foot gauge version https://www.flickr.com/photos/34938158@N02/albums/72157631038668260/with/22356322545 Plenty of inspiration here, chaps - and some clear detailing for modellers. Re: Here's the land for the future railroad
I'll follow this with interest. Somewhat of a contrast to the conditions I'm facing in the NW of England. So far this year, rain, followed by rain, followed by even more rain.
I did find a rather sleepy wasp in the shed last week......

Re: A Ruston-ish ....
Thanks Graeme. Can't think why I've not bought that book on Rustons before. I've now ordered one from the Moseley Trust. I must start making my own powered chassis. Relying on commercially available chassis does limit what I can make or, as in this case, how realistic the models appear. I do like th...

Re: A Ruston-ish ....
What surprised me is the large number of variations in the basic design of these locos, which is why I felt justified if creating yet another version.

A Ruston-ish ....
I bought another HGLW chassis and was wondering what to do with it ..... IMG_3900.JPG It's a sort-of, maybe, might be Ruston. I couldn't find a 3 foot gauge Ruston and so 'adapted' a 2 foot gauge one. I've almost got away with it. IMG_3901.JPG I think, when Ruston's did produce 3' gauge locos, they ...
