Re: Yatton Models - Vale of Ffestiniog

And then there was this: https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-w7NF3MS/0/O/i-w7NF3MS.jpg The doors lift off their hinges and can easily be swapped around. Quite why somebody thought the fuel tank needed a vented door is a mystery to me. Precisely my point. And it seems as the doors are configured in ...

Re: Yatton Models - Vale of Ffestiniog

The problem with a lot of mechanical subject matter that is modeled is that it evolves over time and its working life, sometimes in just minor details, sometimes in more radical ways.Take this loco in it's original form as Imported from SA, before it's evolution into a "Western" mini me we...

Re: Yatton Models - Vale of Ffestiniog

Maybe I am going blind but from the images I am looking at I cannot see anything seriously amiss or nothing I have not encountered with other, mentioned, makers' products. Did you speak the Perter Yatton before posting on here to trash his products and start the usual feeding frenzy with those who i...

Me too. Intrigued by the buy two get one free offer on the one I selected- Does it automatically add a 3rd to the delivery if you order 2 or does it discount the 3rd if you order 3. I have gone down the order 2 route as I did not see a discount if I ordered 3 in the checkout. sent the question to th...

Re: Festiniog Railway Coaches 15 and 16

Interesting to see the construction method forced on you by the 3D printer's constrained bed size. It reminds me of the "modular" construction method used in the Garden Railway Specialist L&B and associated freelance 16 mm scale coach kits some years ago. These kits were of mainly polys...

Re: Refurbishing resin buildings

Do not use Nitromoors on quick cure resins, either polyester or polyurethane, you will dissolve it. Medium for removing paint is dependent on what type it is. Problem with a building is that it is a bit big to immerse in anything. If you can dismantle it safely then do so. Sodium hydroxide based cle...

Re: Tram Kits n Bits

The accepted larger scale among enthusiast seems to be 1:16. However,in the more mainstream product areas you have OcCre who make a wonderful range of highly detailed wooden kits, with some metal parts in 1:24 scale https://catalog.occre.com/modelismo-de-tranvias.html. Not for the faint hearted and ...

Re: Which is the best track to use please I am a newbie

Echoing what others are saying (so why am I posting this ?) Before any definitive advise can be given, even if that is possible, a little more information as to what type of train (prototype) floats your boat and what sort of space will be available is required. Keep in mind even the most dispassion...

Re: Aerosol sprays and priming wood

You don't actually say what material you want to spray onto. Generally I agree with the use of the Halfords products suggested and their different purposes and applications. However I would reccomend using a cellulose based sanding sealer first on ply & strip wood before anything else is applied...

Re: Need gearbox advise

Interesting Peter. However the architecture of the chassis I am using would probably preclude that layout. Not averse to bevel gears but I am looking for a vertical motor mount and a very positive locating of the gears in relation to each other, i.e. within a yolk with bearings pressed in for the ax...

Need gearbox advise

I am looking for a suitable gearbox/transmission for a 16 mm scale 0-4-0 diesel loco. I already have the chassis and wheel sets There is 38 mm space available between the wheel backs and insulating bushes. It must accept an 1/8th inch axle and use metal gears preferably, worm and pinion type. I have...

Modern Darjeeling, DHR, coach information

I have just bought 3 of Peter Yatton's rather fine modern DHR coach kits. Little problem - It does not matter what search parameters I use I cannot find any useful pictorial information to nail down suitable exterior naming and numbering. Loads on pictures of all the loco's out there but collectivel...

Re: Lynton & Barnstaple measured and drawn book Stephen Phil

This book is a labour of love and a work of art. My favorite railway title that I have a compulsion to dip into every now and then. I won mine in a raffle after the chance purchase of a £1 ticket at the Warley NEC show. It was around the date of its publication and after having been button holed by ...

Re: Snowdon mountain railway - rack and pinion in garden form?

You may well need to incline your locomotive's boiler to take account of the gradient on your proposed rack line - dependent on where the take off of steam produced in the boiler is located on the back head. There is a risk that water in the boiler will cover this outlet rather than steam from the t...

Re: Flexible track

Interesting debate on the efficacy of rail benders. I've never used one. I did consider buying a rail bender when I started out in the hobby but was advised by one of the staff at GRS that they weren't really necessary Strange thing, some 13 years ago when buying some additional flexi' for my line,...

Re: Flexible track

Twin rail benders may appear pricey but when you put them in the context of how much you can be spending on just building the basic infrastructure of your railway, the time they save and the possibilities for layout optimization they offer it's a small cost. Add in the cost of your stock and "s...

Re: Flexible track

Accucraft is a good brand. Code 332 so compatible with most other makes of that type. E.G. LGB, Bachmann, Trainline, Piko, etc'. So plenty of set track points and crossings available without the need to make or commission your own. Agree with all previous remarks. Get or rent a track/rail bender. Av...

So you've got rivet counters for the locos and the rolling stock. Now we have a category for "brick counters". And not just the number but the size and source as well ! Somebody had to say it :D My inner rivet counter has now found an additional cause. Very informative and QI. I live in a ...
