Thank you for your comments. I was hoping to be able to leave trains to run, I'm a hands off runner so I shall have to minimise the gradients as far as possible. 1 in 50 has been mentioned, from experience does that generally allow manually controlled locomotives to 'look after themselves' i.e, not ...

Allowable Gradients
After getting the indoors section of my line to a state of relative completion in terms of being able to run trains I now need to plan my outdoor section. I am going for a boards on posts approach and after a bit of eyeing stuff up in the garden today I have realised quite how far off the ground the...

Have had a good session working on the line of late... My loco fleet has also increased somewhat, with a Locomotion Railcar and an Accucraft Edrig being added. http://i1310.photobucket.com/albums/s654/JimH1994/12953195_10157250916765497_1485302975_o_zpsidq4efhv.jpg http://i1310.photobucket.com/album...

Thank you for your replies, certainly has given me ideas. I think I shall go down the pressure treated timber route as opposed to plywood - seems a far longer lasting approach. I am quite keen on the PVC idea Derek, just not so the bright white in the garden. I notice another line in the background,...

Raised Lines
I picked up another load of track this weekend and I reckon I've enough now to do the whole line, so the next step is to build it! I am going for a raised line that is more of a running track than a scenic route (I suppose more like your typical G1 layout than a 16mm one). I wonder if anyone on here...

When there is a bit more to look at you'll be welcome for a steam up - you're not too far away... I'd enjoy that - give me a shout when you're ready! In the meantime you're welcome here of course - I'll drop you a line when the weather improves... Cheers, Andrew. Sounds good to me, thank you! Will ...

Thanks for the comments - I was really pleased with how it came out. It's surprising what you can achieve using tab and slot construction and flat sheets of material. See the CAD model below and at an earlier stage in construction... http://i1310.photobucket.com/albums/s654/JimH1994/10723382_1015465...

The North Somerset Electric Light & Power Company Ltd.
Been mocking up a building for the indoor section of my line... This is the generating plant of 'The North Somerset Electric Light & Power Company Ltd.' and will contain a Stuart Turner 504 boiler driving a couple of large stationary steam engines in turn running stepper motor generators...the p...
