Paintstripping

Evening chaps Using a blowtorch to reduce paint [original Mamod paint] off a loco for restoration. An acrid, metallic, smoking smell comes off it, penetrates my facemask and is quite disgusting. Sometimes the metalwork catches fire! Any idea what it is, if it's lead {!!} or not? Working outdoors, we...

The limited clearance thing actually has real prototype - what about the 'canyon' on the last quarter of the Vale of Rheidol where you cannot even stick your head out without risking severe injury?

DougStar Works No. 3 - "Good God it's mucky"

Having won a little Mamod with some Aster and Chaney(?) parts on Ebay for a bargain initially for spare parts, correspondence with the seller revealed it was a historic little loco, built and modified as a 'two fingers up' to the crazy and expensive Mamodifications trend from about 20 years ago. 5 y...

Ahhhhhhhhhhh.

I didn't post in the For Sale specifically. I mentioned them in my Introduction post and a couple other posts.

Still, done and dusted now - only regret is not the bogie coach.

Yup. Never seen it happen myself pauly, but have wondered... Still. It's something to consider? I'm pleased though - for what the coaches are and how I can improve them cheaply, and compared to kits and rtrs, I think I've come out well. :) Shame aboutt he bogie coach but eh. Maybe it'll come up agai...

Exactly. Like on the Mamod forums. They have topics sticked for specific brands like Wilesco, Mamod, Fleischmann and so forth. Then if someone says "I'm going after it" and has definitely put an Ebay bid on, most users then treat it like a gentleman's agreement and decide to allow it. It's...

Ah ha, so it was you that I did battle with! :)

Hmm.

I think a system or an Ebay subforum where we can sort out who buys what or agreements/politico can be civilly sorted like on the Mamod forums. To avoid conflicts of interest and so forth?

There's also a semi-matching bogie coach but that's already on £33.50. I'm disappointed but at this moment in time am absolutly pushed for cash [being unemployed helps little!] Still, I am grateful I have secured the matching five. Someone put £30 on one!!   ADDENDUM: £42 for a Mamod coach?! C...

Aye, it looks like the Butterly railway is quite a daytrip worth going to.

Only question is, how to get there on a Sunday with Public Transport...Derby seems to be the nearest NR station!

Standard boiler, the uprated boiler was to be the final upgrade. After all the effort, I did think about keeping her as a "pet" but on this occasion allowed my head to rule my heart. As much as anything else, I've proved to myself that I can part with a much loved loco as part of the grea...
