Re: Semi-scale BR: The Modernisation Plan

“Lima created a 33 along similar lines back in the 80s” What a clot! I’ve only just noticed, prompted by your Lima picture — Thank you — that I’ve put the lift-off roof on the wrong way round in all my snaps. This is despite spending ages on a wire mesh grill and red cooling fan (that you can’t rea...

Re: Semi-scale BR: The Modernisation Plan

Thanks for the kind remarks. The pictures are a bit naughty really. It is in ‘authentic’ Rail Blue and in most circumstances (certainly at this time of year) doesn’t look as bright as that. I could attempt to modify the dodgy bogies later on — but I want to finish the rest of it first.

I’ve not stumbled across any evidence of Class 33s actually in a ‘large logo’ livery...

Re: Dec 2022 Photo Gallery - VOTE HERE

Oh! I didn’t think the second picture would be considered an entry — I figured it was sort of background guff for the main pic… And it’s got a vote! Philipy — if you need to drop one, feel free. Apologies.

Re: Semi-scale BR: The Modernisation Plan

It is, it is! The ‘Thomas’ one, of course.

Fingers crossed it won’t look too small — I may have to organise the sequence of wagons specifically to disguise that, or attempt to.

Between being very busy (though with intermittent spells of extreme laziness) and many, miserably rainy days, I’ve made a little progress. I have to say t...

Bulleid_double-heading_186_800.jpg My pictures all end up looking the same – but anyway, here’s another one. Semi-scale BR: Double-headed Bulleids His initial proposals for replacing the Southern fleet of ancient tank engines. Didn’t happen, of course. [Below] I like this angle from the other side ...

That’s very interesting. Well done. I’ve had one of those, which surprised me for the same reasons. I’d better have a look at doing the same. Thanks

Of course. Thank you. I’ll admit to being pleased with the Thumper and the coaches. I’m particularly well disposed towards the Pannier tank too: cute, totally reliable — the one to grab if a loco’s required quickly. It’s done more track time than anything else.

Re: Semi-scale BR: Smash Hits

“I reet enjoyed that” Excellent. Thank you. Editing video might be a useful excuse for not doing modelmaking. You can just sit at the computer, with cups of tea and chocolate digestives, and fiddle about with the mouse — you don’t make a terrible mess and you don’t have to clean it up and put every...

Semi-scale BR: Smash Hits

https://youtu.be/GJAGFMc1p2g Being a bit lazy, I’ve sat at the computer, fiddling around with the ’video archive’, when I ought to have been, you know, painting the ceiling -- or at least, organising everything to shoot new stuff. And you might think the choice of music is a bit weird for a garden ...

Re: Semi-scale BR: The Modernisation Plan

1_33_0822_800_SB.jpg It must be the first example of the 33/3 variant: there are a number of detail differences The first thing I attempted was to mildly reshape the cab roofs, which didn’t seem quite ‘round’ enough to me (or to Andrew, I would imagine). It doesn’t seem to have made much difference...

I’m taking a few liberties with it, of course, but it’s coming along quite nicely, I think (unlike the garden).

Re: Semi-scale BR: The Modernisation Plan

“Was there a nightclub in Woolwich?!” I didn’t know of one. The place I recall (mid 70s) was the Tramshed which did gigs and comedy. Haven’t been there since. And anyway, ‘when I was a lad, etc, etc…’ I think most clubs did live music. Not what they later became, post punk — and nowhere near as man...

Re: Semi-scale BR: The Modernisation Plan

“…a night out in New Cross” I like the all-over ‘freight grey’ livery on 33s (though I’d never be able to make a decent 3D double-arrow logo for the cab side), similarly, I think the ‘sectorisation’ freight livery design is inspired — but, weirdly, I don’t think I ever saw either of these on a 33 a...

Re: Semi-scale BR: The Modernisation Plan

I finally managed the pilgrimage to the Spa Valley Railway — between covid and cancelled and/or rescheduled holidays and travel — for a solitary orgy of Thumper noise and Harvey’s Best Bitter. It was another quiet, lovely day but I was surprised to find that, sadly, my iPhone videos suffered from in...
