Re: This weekend I have been mostly building..... a Brunel models, Chelfham station

Thanks guys for the kind comments. I must admit it does make things easier in 16mm, 4mm figures were a pain. I used the painted example on the ip website as a guide & did my own spin on it using the colours I had to hand. Even my wife commented on how good it was. When I sat him in the Bole Rust...

Re: This weekend I have been mostly building..... a Brunel models, Chelfham station

That's an interesting way of detailing the interior. I'm absolutely crap with computers so wouldn't know how or where to start. As I had been enjoying painting I decided to try my hand at a figure. Not something I've ever done before. I primed the figure 12 months ago & so it's had plenty of tim...

Re: This weekend I have been mostly building..... a Brunel models, Chelfham station

16 quid, I'd be fuming! That's a lovely piece of modelling too, with some nice touches. That planking on the wall & floors looks superb. I might give that a try on my own model & then it's full decorated. The table is a nice addition also. My model is for the garden but like all the stock it...

Re: This weekend I have been mostly building..... a Brunel models, Chelfham station

I primed the roof last night. I still have to paint it up so it is more slate looking.

Expensive, but very nice now it's coming together.

Re: This weekend I have been mostly building..... a Brunel models, Chelfham station

I started Chelfham station about 18 months ago & then it just stopped. Its been sat needing finishing so I have made a start to get it finished. I wanted a more Welsh look to it & so I picked up from Coach & Wagon, a slate paint set. I've only used 2 of the 5 colours to paint the slate w...

Re: This weekend I have been mostly building..... a talyllyn covered van

Cheers Andrew, I've a few more Talyllyn wagons to make before I stock up on some more bits. Not sure what yet, maybe some more coaches, freelance.

Re: This weekend I have been mostly building..... a talyllyn covered van

So yesterday with an hour to spare I knocked up the basics of a talyllyn covered van. I've been saving this one until I've been in the mood as the roof I knew would be problematic with such a tight radius. The kit fell together if I am honest & was a breeze to make. All the parts fit as they sho...

Painting foamboard structures, Brunel models kit.

I'm slowly working my way through a Brunel models Chelfham station kit & I'm wondering how you guys paint your kits? I've never used foamboard before so I'm not sure how to tackle it. Usually if it is a plasticard or the likes I used a halfords grey primer as a base before painting stone colours...

Re: My workshop thread.

I decided to finish off a lingering model over the weekend. Its a lineside hut kit for a Ffestiniog brake van. I think it's been sat in various corners of the workshop & garage awaiting finishing for the past 18 months. I painted the blackwork firstly before gluing glazing in & all the inter...

Re: I.P engineering Talyllyn coach 4

Thanks for the replies The pit falls! Because Talyllyn coaches have a complex multi coloured livery it needs some forward thought. Before I glued any parts together I pre painted most of the kit. I decided to keep everything safe I would paint everything before removing the waste bits of wood. This ...

This weekend I have been mostly building....Gravity Griff wagon

A few photos of my latest coach build. Built from a IP kit with added seat upholstery to give the interior some colour. I used coach & wagon paints which I've found excellent for brush painting without the need for primer. 20220131_201713.jpg 20220131_201705.jpg 20220131_201658.jpg Still some wo...

Re: Slaters De Winton question regarding batteries & r/c

Paul They didnt say if I would have to wait 12 weeks after the parts were in stock. After the de winton fell through i thought i would have a bash at the quarry hunslet only for them to ring me to tell me that was out of stock too. It's not the motors apparently it's the boiler castings on both mode...

Re: Slaters De Winton question regarding batteries & r/c

Thanks for the reply Peter

I think a 9v battery under the body should work & whilst not totally hidden should work satisfactorily.
Slaters dont currently have stock of this or the quarry hunslet for those who may want one.

Re: What's the smallest point for 16mm industrials

Gregh That video is very interesting regarding the radius on which your models work. I wonder if my ip simplex could negotiate a 1ft radius curve? I have a 5x2ft board I was going to butcher for a small cameo layout. I'm now wondering if it could be used with a radius curve for a hidden siding &...

Re: Slaters De Winton question regarding batteries & r/c

Thanks for the replies everyone, slaters unfortunately cancelled my order I had placed for one as they cannot fulfill my order because they dont have the motors in stock for it presently. Theyve told me to re order in another month, I shall wait until then & hopefully I can get more info on what...

Slaters De Winton question regarding batteries & r/c

I wonder if anyone on the forum has built one of these kits? I'm curious how you powered them? I really want to build one but I want to know it can be r/c fitted. Are the tank & bunker hollow & can they take a battery? My thoughts are to fit a 9v battery to it & a locoremote maxi dependi...

What's the smallest point for 16mm industrials

I'm looking at possibly making a micro / cameo layout & I would like to know how small a turnout can be made. The locos will only be small simplex & ruston diesels so nothing to make the turnouts need to be big. I've looked on templot for 16mm track but the track library doesnt have no 16mm ...

Re: White Metal Soldering

I have been for a time a professional modelmaker building 0 gauge models so I have some experience with white metal soldering. White metal solder isn't great at creeping like normal solder does on brass so it can be a handful to work with especially those who are inexperienced. When I first started ...
