Granddad liked trains, even took some 16mm movies of them and photographs back in the day. Dad bit the bug and had an H0/H0n3 railway. For me? Always liked narrow gauge for some strange reason and I blame Richard Scarry for my interest in European railways and cars. The first train was a wooden trai...

Having been an eBay seller/buyer since the 1990s.... But if it was sold, and you got your $$ back, other than some disappointment, I don't think there is much you can do. If they did not send money back, or kept listing and selling (the other listing was pulled) THEN you have a problem. One is a mon...

OK, I had seen him sell a few locos that way, thanks for the clarification.

The real question is, does he still do the Mamod bits? I have two of his sand pots on Janmod and really liked those.

I e-mailed him 2-3 times about something last year, still waiting. Last I had heard on another forum was he had ceased trading?

It's interesting that it seems to have "normal" controllers - no signs of DCC! Mmmm.... Hammond & Morgan "Duette". I still have one here for those rare occasions when a bit of 12vDC is required. How Retro. At first I thought all was well because it was all high speed pax tra...

Sorry to go off topic. For me, part of the value of a Roundhouse engine is that it is an English engine that is actually made in England by English people. It has some authenticity in other words. Fully agreed, and their locos are cheaper than they were in the 1980s when one factors inflation! Glad...

The Roundhouse "Basic" locomotives sell for a shade under $800.00 including postage from the UK. Delivery is ususally about six weeks. Yes, that is 75% more than an Accucraft 'Ruby' but in terms of lack of hassle and haulage capacity they are worth it, and they need less maintenance. Yes,...

Crackingbob- I found the article, June of 1997 from the US magazine Garden Railways. Titled "What makes a great garden railway" it has several photos of the line including an overall (obscured by plants) photo taken from from an upstairs window or the like. A lot of good tips in the articl...

Best method of attaching works/name plates on a hot Mamod...

What is the best way to attach works and name plates to a Mamod since the body work gets hot from the pot boiler and/or fires.

Thanks!

There was a good article about it in the US publication Garden Railways a few years ago with some overall shots. I can see if I can find a copy.

I think he used Mamod track by memory?

One interesting quirk one hits with modern timber versus Victorian timber when restoring 12" scale stuff is that a modern 2x4 is nowhere near the same size as a Victorian 2x4.  The Victorian one is actually only a shade undersize whereas the modern version is more like 1.75" by 3.75."...

The plywood here is nothing to write home about either, and is probably the same stuff.  There seems to be a plant in an obscure corner of Finland that keeps the world supplied.  The U.S. supplier sticks a dirty great label on it which is an absolute PITA to remove and leaves glue residue.   Cheers...

but if I were to buy a new one I would get a RH or RWM inline one. Why not a Dead Leg Lubricator then? Cost, Looks, Practicality or Operation? One advantage I find with my dead leg lubricators is they use a lot less oil than the in-line displacement types. Chris Cairns. A valid question Chris. Plus...

I have one of each, both work, but if I were to buy a new one (the deadleg was already on the loco) I would get a RH or RWM inline one.

Finally got the answer from the 16mm NGM Yahoo group, and you are right - it is M12 x 1.

Seems strange to use different standards for thread sizes - BSF & Metric.
