Re: Imperial Hotel - a Queenslander pub

Cheers Graeme; Irrigation line sounds the way to go, then. I've been getting my foamboard from the evil green hadware shed. My local one used to sell 3ft x 4ft sheets. kept it with the MDF and corflute, but stopped carrying it. Ended up finding more foamboard from the polycarb sheeting section, of a...

Re: Mamod SP2 stationary engine loco conversion

Running issues aside, it's good to see more progress. Must agree, fuel tablets are a blight on an engine. I think you'll need a lathe or mill to ream those gears accurately. If I lived in the UK, I'd offer to do it on my lathe. Surely there's a closer member on here willing to help you out? Don't su...

Re: The Ringbalin "Cane Line"

Your "center-outward" construction sounds the way to go. The corrugated iron in particular looks brilliant; and it'll oxidise perfectly in the weather. I wish one could achieve such a good result with paint! Really looking forward to seeing the mill come together - I need ideas for the mil...

Re: Gauge 1 ‘project’

I almost took that clack valve for an injector - had to go back and re-read the build.
Somewhat envious of your model engineering skills, Dave! That boiler is a work of art - like the rest of the loco, really. :thumbright:

Re: Further Improvements to a Roundhouse Fowler

Thanks again gents, really pleased with how loco and track (well, most of the latter) has turned out. Andrew; I'm excited to hear that; encouraging others to have a go at weathering is half the reason this thread exists. That, and to contribute something to this forum from which I've learned so much...

Re: Peckforton Light Railway - Video Library

Oh Rik, you are a tease!!! Superb production and in so little time, well done yet again. These are probably the best garden railway videos available, they can be useful to all levels of modellers, not putting off new starters yet showing what can be achieved with experience. More please, it's still...

I struggle with removable rooves, but that, is beautiful. Looking forward to seeing it progress. GWR motor livery is a nice one.

Re: Further Improvements to a Roundhouse Fowler

The ultrasonic cleaner I bought was only a cheapy from Evilbay, with a 600ml capacity; Set me back about $50AUD and works very well. As mentioned earlier in this thread, it's been great for cleaning the loco's motion without dismantling it and losing the timing. Some people swear by ultrasonics for ...

Must agree it all looks great. I know the feeling, everything seemed huge, having come from HO. One eventually gets used to it.

Re: Imperial Hotel - a Queenslander pub

Thanks again, guys, means a lot. :) Unfortunately once in-situ, one would need one of those mirrors on a stick, the type used for looking under cars at borders, to see inside. Hopefully things will be better on the next tramway; I could mount the pub on a raised garden bed for better access and view...

Re: An addition or a new layout with interchange

A layout within a layout, with provision for shunting and interchange. Doesn't usually happen in the larger scales, great to see it.

It seems we built our first railways around the same time - with similarly-mixed results. Looking forward to seeing the new version come together; having it raised yet scenic gives the best of both worlds. The shed storage sounds great, too.

You've really transformed that vet! Good to hear you're doing better; illness, even when others have it worse, is no joke.
Looking forward to hearing the rest of Mr. Spectre's report, in due course.

Re: Further Improvements to a Roundhouse Fowler

Been a long time since last I made a video; I think back then I had Windows Movie Maker with which to work.. Will find another video editing program and learn to use it.. I see where you're coming from, Brian. I'm still quite new to weathering, so it's all very trial-and-error. Before slappin...

Re: Further Improvements to a Roundhouse Fowler

15/03/21 After finishing touch-ups some weeks back, a thick wash of dark (sooty-coloured) grey Tamiya enamel and mineral turps, with a tinge of brown, was brushed over a few square inches at a time. Then with a clean rag, wiped, swirled or dabbed off, leaving (I think) a suitably sooty, grimy residu...
