Well, that is simply excellent. Nice and smooth and I love the sound it makes.

Hi Keith,
Have you tried descaling the valve?
You know, I hadn't thought of that! Good idea.

Re: Operating a new Roundhouse Lady Anne

I went back and looked at the construction video of Omingmak ,is it my imagination, or does the safety valve behave better then? Perhaps the difference is in more modern recording devices 😁 Tim I think the valve may have behaved a little better when it was brand-new, but also it can be silenced by ...

Re: Operating a new Roundhouse Lady Anne

Hi Keith, How close to the heat of the boiler is the resonator chamber positioned on your loco? Presumably the high pressure needed in the DJB system is not determined by the need to clear water, as in the direct whistle style? Tim Hello Tim, The visible part of the whistle slides into the resonato...

Re: Operating a new Roundhouse Lady Anne

Of the topic a bit, but how did you install a whistle? I ordered one from DJB engineering. They make a "resonator" style whistle, with a scale(ish) brass whistle to mount on the front of the cab, and a resonating chamber hidden inside the cab. It also comes with a valve and a "banjo&...

Re: Operating a new Roundhouse Lady Anne

I have found that the Roundhouse safety valve seldom seats all the way closed once it has opened. Mine is always giving off a wisp of steam as the engine runs. Some people replace them with a "pop" type valve like the "Weebee" brand. As for me, it doesn't bother me. If your engin...

Re: Used Edrig

I knew a guy whose Accucraft Countess would routinely run out of water before fuel. Nothing bad ever seemed to happen to it honestly, it would run out of puff and he'd walk over and turn off the gas. Just like Jimmy B said above, the only thing you can really do to wreck one of these modern copper s...

Re: TVT - Mt Delusion O&K

As usual, as well as looking at the excellent workmanship, I enjoyed your description of the thought process that went into your model. I, too, had the same thought process after I ordered the "Billy" components, but I went the complete opposite direction and cut off the little supplementa...

Re: Llewellyn Loco Works #1

I always look forward to progress updates on this locomotive. I think it's a fascinating project, with many refinements not seen on commercially-available models. It's gratifying to follow along with projects like these.

Re: Gauge 1 ‘project’

I have a silly question: what are the holes in the flue-tube? I speculate they increase heating surface by allowing water to flow through the flue itself? I've never seen this before.

What an excellent job. The glowing ashpan is a very interesting detail. I think also it bears repeating how realistic your track is. The rails themselves are a modelling triumph.

Re: Further Improvements to a Roundhouse Fowler

If you're doing water connexions between the tender and the loco, perhaps you'd like to make these dummy injectors to go along with it. Here is a link to the post I made about how I did mine. I think it adds some visual appeal to the locomotive. https://gardenrails.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=25&t...

Re: Coal fired Garratt K1

"Simpling valve" is a term I'm familiar with from marine compound engines. I had no idea locomotives employed this as well. At the risk of sounding over-enthusiastic, I am really enjoying your efforts to include these "complications" (and I'm deliberately using a watchmaking word...

Re: Ace Engineering Works Mss 'Reaper'

Ace, I've been looking for a Mamod/MSS body and frames for a while now, because I've got a set of Wilesco cylinders and eccentrics laying about and I've not made up my mind to turn them into a boat or a twin-cylinder steam tractor or locomotive, or what. If you're done playing with this corpse, I wo...

Re: Further Improvements to a Roundhouse Fowler

Aaron, I'm enjoying watching your work on the locomotive, but I think someday you must write a bit about how you've laid the track in your garden. It looks absolutely real- in fact in the first picture the only thing that gives it away as being a model is the locomotive sitting on it and the fence i...

It may be a good idea to ask Accucraft to provide a set of instructions when they return the locomotive to you.

Re: 16mm scale "Linda"

The drawings showed 8BA grub screws holding the eccentrics. I adjusted them initially at dead centre. When assembled I adjusted each one until the valves were opening just after dead centre, and closing again after about 75 - 80% of the travel. A bit crude I know but it seems to have worked. Trevor...
