That's the dark side of the Internet - people have come to expect instant gratification. I'm no better myself when dealing with businesses. However I don't have the same expectations when dealing with non-profit organisations run by volunteers (unpaid staff). Compared to many other associations, clu...

Well said. Despite the growing number of members, the membership secretary does a fantastic job of getting new member packs out the door in double time.

Klap hesten! ;)

MDF is great with lasers. Because it is very uniform it is easy to get the settings right. The density throughout a sheet of ply can vary a lot.

A motorcycle cover from my daughter. We don't swap gifts amongst the adults in our family (for which I am eternally grateful!)

I've managed to get a job that pays 20% more than the last one did so I'm not complaining. However I have moved 3 times this year and am about to move for the fourth time (from Germany back to the UK). Moving into a 2-bedroom flat so I've had to get rid of most of my machine tools. There is always s...

I've been in Germany since 1/3 but my laser cutter is still in the UK. Don't have a firm date yet for when my family is moving over. It is unlikely I will be making any progress until July time. It also depends on my job - currently it looks like I will be working in Maastricht for the next year or ...

Do you have a LVC (Low Voltage Cutoff) on the controller? If not you run the risk of draining the LiPo cells too much which will ruin them. Normally a LVC will cut the power to the motor when the voltage per cell reaches 2.9V under load.

You should never tin wires if they are to be crimped. This is a sure way to get a poor connection. You need the "spring" of the copper wire to ensure good contact. Crimping if done properly is a perfectly adequate method - just look at cars.

I believe well tanks are fairly common in Germany. I really like saddle tank locos, especially the quarry Hunslet locos.

Re: Ian Stock Railway Realism

A modeller is one that sets out to achieve detail in whatever scale, gauge, surroundings or otherwise and not track on sticks! Then I'm not a modeller but an artist. My designs seek inspiration from the real thing but are not true to scale. I find that too rigid and no fun at all. I like to imagine...

It does if you are in an apartment which is what we are likely to get in Germany. An oval on the balcony is the best I can hope for. Never had a garden railway.

Anyone have the Marc Horowitz book? Realistically I'm not going to have a garden railway as we will be renting for the next many years. Therefore my interest is mainly in locos and rolling stock.

On raised track I'm indifferent but on ground level I do like R/C as I don't have to bend over to make adjustments. A lifelong bad back is not getting better with age (I'm 42 so not totally decrepit yet).
