Re: The Crowfoot Light Railway website re-vamp

Sounds like a good plan. I've had a four year old happily running a battery loco ( in fact he was a lot more careful and considerate than a seven year old who visited a couple of weeks later). I'd be happy to advise and/or assist with the rc installation if you feel in need. Otherwise I can recommen...

Re: Now....what should i do with this?

What a fine looking model this is becoming. .If you were thinking of rechargeable batteries, you could always install a couple of AA sized (14500) lI-ions wired in parallel to give you twice the running time on 3.7v. You'd need a battery protection board to prevent them from becoming overly discharg...

Marvellous bit of weathering, Kjell. Looks very realistic. Have you somehow sun bleached the green paint or is that the colour it comes when bought?

Re: 71 Mile Garden Railway anyone?? Channel 4 - 7th Jan

I enjoy it in an analytical way. I like trying to spot the reality TV clichés which the programme makers have engineered into situations or in the editng. For example, the Simon Cowell/Craig Revell Horwood type 'expert' who enjoys belittling the efforts of the teams and who has clearly been tasked w...

Watched episode 2. Hmmmmmm..... did you notice how many times they cut the shot just before the loco was about to round a curve? I suspect derailments were a lot more frequent than is portrayed. Interesting insights on this website - https://www.broadcastnow.co.uk/factual/the-biggest-little-railway-...

As Jim says, soldered and heatshrinked (heatshrunk??). If you want plugs and sockets to make them removable, then you can get (supposedly) waterproof JST connectors such as these https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/253318963167

Re: Two way remote control anyone?

Also, I believe the Deltang Rx65b is capable of two way communication as that's how it is programmed when used with a computer. I don't think it will transmit via the airwaves though, Tom. Though, as you say, it does communicate with the Prog module so some info must be sent back. Interesting notio...

Re: The Crowfoot Light Railway website re-vamp

Really great looking website, Andy and also a great looking railway. Some very nice scenic touches and plenty of operating potential. Interested to see you're intending to build a Hunslet steam outline battery loco from a GRS kit. These kits go together well and I'm sure will be a welcome addition t...

Re: Why Live Steam?

It reminds me of when I was at school in the 1960s and used to work weekends at the 'The World's Finest Model Railway' which was based inside Colchester Zoo. The automation for that was provided by a large wooden cylinder which rotated very slowly. On the cylinder were various metal contacts which c...

Brandbright for 1/8" axles. I bought a lot a few years ago I don't know if the new company still do them.

Brilliant work Tony, I reckon you could motorize an egg cup given time. Grant. PS I hope Rik is reading about this battery powered steam outline. Following it with interest, Grant. As one who uses proprietary motor blocks, I'm really interested in the chassis. That looks quite simple to construct a...

Definitely interested in seeing more. My railway is set in 1932 and so very interested in your vehicles. I like the subtle weathering and, like others, love the bike. I think I'd tear my hair out trying to make those spokes. Which reminds me, I seem to recall someone describing making bike wheels us...

. However, following a recently completed home automation project, I'm updating my locos with the same technology (ESP8266 modules) and this opens up new possibilities, well for me at least. All the locos are on my local network (extended to the garden) and can be controlled via a custom hand-held ...
