Neighbours of garden railways
Had a lovely run of the Quarry Hunslet yesterday, the longest run so far, well over an hour of near continual running (no photos or videos). The young family next door came outside early on and the twin boys were right in to it. We are blest with a fence that is not too high. All family members show...

Re: Disasters, Out-takes, Accidents, Fails etc.
Shhh, don't tell the inspector that I've posted this! Oh snap! I had a good one too yesterday New loco running happily, then the coupling pin lifted and the loco started pulling on the gas line. The loco dragged the gas cylinder off the flatbed and was skidding along the track until it dug-in, and ...

Re: Charles - Penrhyn Mainline Hunslet
I've been working on a new spring, with the leaves reduced from 1/4" to 3/16", with a type 3 hanger, and a different eyelet. Getting ready for for production

What do you think of this new one? Where larger rod meets flat strip. I think it gets my vote

Good job Tom! Endmills in a bench drill tend to be a disaster

Re: Charles - Penrhyn Mainline Hunslet
I've made another hanger this time out of brass rod. Hmmm, I wonder which to go for? The leaf spring and hangers so far are just a trial

Re: Charles - Penrhyn Mainline Hunslet
Had a whoopsy yesterday with the hanger cross-hole position being too low. Plugged it with a piece of rod, silver soldered, and then cut out and filed down.

Re: Charles - Penrhyn Mainline Hunslet
Thanks lads. The leaves are copper, I had a piece the correct thickness, and hacksawed and filed each piece. The central strap is now drilled through to attach to the axle box push rod. I'm working on the hanger brackets now

Having a go at making the leaf springs. The leaves need further trimming in length to get the profile better

LGB Train delivers coffee to customers to maintain social distancing
We've just moved to level 3 on the wuflu lockdown: businesses must use distancing when serving customers Whilst on level 4 this coffee shop person discovered an old LGB trainset stored away, the rest is history https://www.tvnz.co.nz/one-news/new-zealand/palmerston-north-cafe-using-toy-train-contact...

Re: Charles - Penrhyn Mainline Hunslet
Thank you!
Those are slots to pass the rod from the axle box to the leaf springs above. It's all likely to be solid as the loco could be rather lively with such overhangs if it were sprung, but we will see

Re: steam pipe size
That would imply 0.4mm (27 SWG) wall thickness for the 1/8" tube ... Rather thin? but clearly it works OK for you :thumbleft: Maybe it is also the function of the steam pressure? Steam pressure in 16mm locos tends to be lower than what it is for example in G1 locos? I run my locos at 40 PSI wh...
