Viaduct batter
Help please. I am currently building a 5-arch viaduct as a pre-build project for the new Rylston Light. I’ll post on the project board later with build details but I need opinions on the batter of the supporting piers. I have mocked up a pier out of thin card. Have I got the angle of the batter righ...

Serendipity
I decided to take a short break from casting the 5-arch viaduct for the Rylston Light whilst awaiting a mould hardening. I had some reclaimed timber from an earlier bridge which I thought would make a nice ballast bin for a PW hut. Mostly I kept the reclaimed in its naturally weathered form but need...

It is quite a simple meterological term really. It means 14% of any rolling stock left out will get wet

. . ., and must be large, as well as heavy! It has a kind of brewery appearance to it, hardly surprising really. It is modular; each module is one block of aerated concrete. But it is bulked out by (originally plywood but now) styrene fascias that add the impression of bulk with very little extra w...

Rylston Pickle Factory
I thought I’d share this afternoon’s “work”. I spent quite sometime weeding (nettles, brambles, creeping buttercup), so I thought I deserved some “railway” time. In preparation for Mark 2 of the Rylston Light I need to repair, renovate and repurpose a certain degree of Mark 1 infrastructure. Who kne...

Okay, I felt it was a tad over-done by error, but you’ve all reassured me still believable. In fairness it is part of the PW fleet. Thanks everyone. Andy

However since they havn’t visited since the opening inspection . . . Aaaaaahhh!!!! Shall I put you on the Inspectors list for a visit then, Andy?  Arn’t they mandatory before approving a line for re-opening. Slow but steady progress is being made prior to the cutting-the-sod cere...

Re: Disasters, Out-takes, Accidents, Fails etc.
When I assembled a pair of Brandbright hopper wagons I wanted a slightly wavy edge to the steel side as though they were battered. I couldn’t work out how to do this with the supplied laser-cut plywood sides so went to some trouble to make up styrene-sheet replacements before using a heat gun on the...

Like the under-bridge solution, would like to see the development of this bridge. Looks like it would work.

Re: Peckforton Light Railway - Video Library
I find it more interesting watching than just watching a procession of looping trains. There is something relaxing in watching real shunting in the sun despite the often long periods of not moving. I would have preferred if it all was 1:1 time but accept possibly not everyone’s cuppa. For myself: ke...

Re: Lift up bridge questions
The Rylston Light Mark 1 had a complicated aluminium through-truss lift-bridge, but the mechanics were simple as per the previous posts with the hinge pivot just above the rail top level, the only thing I would add would be to think about expansion and contraction. I fitted mine on a cold day and th...

My current bane is sycamore seedlings. Why do they take root so easily when things I want to grow find every excuse not to!! Rik I hate sycamores, we had two and there is a constant battle against their offspring. We are in a tree preservation area and one sycamore’s roots were compromising a neigh...

Rylston Light Railway - another teaser
Those of elephantine memory capacity may recall that the RLR has been without home for some time. Unforeseen circumstances interrupted the best laid plans just as the old track alignment became history. A more sedentary lifestyle had meant that the new alignment has been planned to within an inch of...

able to hold the camera still enough for long exposures, now a brick, block of wood, tin can anything in the area to help the not so steady hands. I often use a thin latex or nitrile glove.
