Re: Time to build a railway...but where?
That wood effect looks amazing! I've always struggled replicating aged wood. What does your paint palette include for creating that effect?

Re: Time to build a railway...but where?
Did the rod try to twist more at the bottom or did it twist evenly? I have heard some people have struggled to get a consistent twist.

Re: Wadebridge Light Railway
After all the indecision on livery I've decided that the IP engineering roundhouse coaches I was re-painting are too big for my railway so I primed them today so someone else can add their own livery more easily. They have been sold to another forum member who already has a couple so here is what th...

Re: Wadebridge Light Railway
Thanks everyone. We've had a couple of ok weather days recently so I managed to tidy up a bit and I didn't take photos of the messy bits

Re: Wadebridge Light Railway
Evening all, With todays advent of good weather I decided to venture out into the garden. I cleared most of the leaves off the railway and other basic maintenance. There has always been 2 types of ballast at St Kew Highway due to the availability of one stopping :cussing: . This was fixed today by c...

Re: Merlin Leek and Manifold
Having seen mentions of a possible Leek and Manifold loco being developed in previous Steamlines issues (the period garden railway magazine edited by Merlins Tom Cooper) I saw and purchased issue No3 (Jan/Feb 1986) recently. I thought that there may be a slim chance that it may mention our loco agai...

Re: Merlin Leek and Manifold
I'd better not get it painted black then. Looking at what you have achieved since those days, I wonder if she wishes she had been more co-operative.......... I'll update on the loco's performance after the next run in the garden - I may need to pick your brains again. Mind you, looking at the foreca...

Re: Merlin Leek and Manifold
Your father did a great job with the photos. Unfortunately I know none of the history of the loco but it would be interesting to find out. It caught my eye at a recent auction in Macclesfield in December where it was described as.... A part constructed brass scratch built live steam train 'E.R. Calt...

Re: The Charlwood Light Railway (CWLR)
I think a good paint job like that takes away the plastic finish that sometimes have a negative effect on the look of LGB locos. I have to say BR green suites the model very well (more so than the prototypical red).

Re: Accucraft Baguley Drewery - Thunderbird loco
Shame about the damage but I'm sure you'll end up with a lovely diesel. Do you get much gear noise or motor whine and is it a consistent runner both forwards and backwards?

Amazing Ian - that's definitely it!!! :thumbright: Are they publicity/development archive photos? IMG_2922.jpeg Do you recognise this bogie? IMG_2918.jpeg IMG_2919.jpeg It's difficult to judge the performance at this early stage. We steamed it as a familiarisation exercise on our small garden railwa...

Re: Merlin Leek and Manifold
Hi Ian - many thanks for posting - that is really interesting information. I'll upload some more images later today for you to have a look at. The frames are both one piece of brass angle for the full length rather than the extended Hunslet chassis as used on Mac's L&M. When would the Merlin ver...

Thanks Bambuko - yes working RC reversing valve gear in addition to RC regulator/whistle combination - thats a great web resource isn't it, I've looked at quite a few locos on there. I've just been looking at your loco build topic for the first time - that is really impressive work. :thumbright: I t...

Re: Merlin Leek and Manifold
Andrew, I've done a bit more research after you mentioned Mac Muckley and found a couple of his locos in the book 'Live Steam Model Locomotives 16mm Scale' by Peter Dobson. One is indeed a Leek and Manifold - J B Earle - and in the description it says it is also based on a modified Merlin Hunslet ch...
